Thank you to everybody who made the Antihoot so engaging last night. Due to unforeseen circumstances, there was no PA system, but that actually worked in our favor.

The way the room is set up is perfect for an unplugged environment. The coolest parts of the night were the times when people spontaneously played along with each other.
The whole thing culminated at the end with Oliver Bear’s poetry jam which can only be described as acoustically psychedelic.

There were stellar performances from all of the artists- too many highlights to go into detail

One of the many highlights was the debut of the Repressions, a duo with jazz tinged harmonies that carried an edge. The acoustic nature of the evening suited their vocal blend well.

It was great to see John S Hall in action. Always incredible and always new. Peter Dizoza was back along with Lenny Molotov who played a song with a blazing lick that has enough electricity all on its own. Jennifer Blowdryer is si effortlessly old school LES spoken word, that it’s easy to forget how rare this is now

Since I am loud and pretty distorted, anyway, I welcomed the actual sound of the room.
The sound system should be back in action next week, but it’s good to know we have enough sound on our own

Thank you, Abby and B Scene for making this all happen!
See you next week.

Thank you to everybody who made last night happen in such a momentous way! It’s more than an open mic. It’s more like a Zeitgeist moment or something. I particularly dig the new breed who gets it right away.

Having said that it was so great to see Andy from sprinkle Genies make a rare appearance. He has been contributing so much to LES culture over the last 30 some years and it feels good to see him back in action.

Some random highlights

Jeffery Lewis doing Shakespeare!

Peter Chance (from Too Many Lauras) bringing his definitive, percussive sound.

Toby Goodshank and Leslie Graves filling the room with their tight, soaring harmonies.

Jean Coleman’s poetry (very Anit) along with her vibe and songs

Honest from North Carolina making a debut with a killer voice. If the place had rafters, they would’ve been shaken.

A big thanks to Abby, Morgan and all of the crew at B Scene!

See you next Monday

Thank you everybody who came out last night to perform and or check out the Antihoot Open Mic .

The lineup was off the hook Everybody was a highlight

Here are just a few

Jeffrey Lewis’s rewrite 9f the Stones with Antifolk Women-giving a shout out to all of the women of aNYAF. I particularly liked the verse about Regina Spektor. The ending of the song is a blast. i’ll try to post a clip this week

John S Hall is killing it . I can’t believe how prolific this guy is . He’s been around longer than me. He has a new book i that is coming out this week. There were some great footage of him coming this week too.

Mike Shohet sounds like sandpaper in a good way. I love his new song about having a second family in France. Great stuff.

The return of Jon Berger! He’s back in fine form

I am hoping to have clips up this week . I had my iPad in a less than ideal spot so there were times when people walked in front of the image-so it needs editing

Thank you B Scene for having us it’s more than an open mic it’s a scene steeped in NYC history.

Thank you everybody who turned up at last night’s jam’packed Antihoot. We had a lot of heavy hitters, and some new people who blew it out of the park.

Here are just a few of the many highlights:

The Ruminators (with Patti Rothberg) with their shiny alternative pop sound. You gotta love the harmonies and melodies.

Jean Coleman displayed a disarming combination of John Prine Country/Folk with a Rap dis- track sensibility and attitude.

The cool fingerpicking chord progressions of Grace Bergere that floated under her starkly melodic voice

The seemingly effortless flow of Jeffrey Lewis -remarkable stuff.

Toby Goodshank’s musicality -that never overshadows the vibe of his performance (but reinforces it).

So much more.

We are just getting started and learning as we go along.
Thank you Abby and the folks at B Scene.
What a great space!

I will be posting video clips gradually

See you next time

Amazing Antihoot last night! Phenomenal really. Love the new venue B Scene! it’s an old school space with a new sound & lights.
With no disrespect to any of the previous places, this space seems perfectly suited for the Antihoots.
Antifolk lumunaries were out in numbers- John S Hall, Toby Goodshank, Jason Trachtanburgh, Too Many Lauras (Peter chance) Mr Scarecow, Brer Brian, Just Jill (to name a few) along with people there for the first time and some folks for the first time in 30 years. - a great mixture of people and a night to remember.

Thank you all for coming out performing and supporting! Thank you, Juan for managing the bar and thank you Abby for letting us do this in your exciting new spot- B Scene.
It’s quite a place. We do it downstairs. Rumor has it that many other things were being done downstairs in the past there is a vibe of old New York.

I took a lot of video and will be posting clips as I added them

I have been offered a spot for a Superhoot/Antifolk showcase. It’s one block from the Morgan Avenue stop on the L train. This is a large space for parties, events, etc. They have a bar and a PA. The date is Monday, September 28. We pretty much run the show ourselves. This is a great opportunity to venture into the Williamsburg zone.

Anybody interested in participating?
Let me know as it will take time to organize.
It’s best to send me an email.

We had an amazing night.
Will filled the house for our portion of the night.
A big thank you for everybody who came out for what turned out to be the last Antihoot at Baker Falls.

I am extremely grateful to Nick and the crew, but it’s time to move on.
We need a place that provides consistency.
Right now I am beginning the process of reaching out to venues that showed interest. I can’t say much more right now.

Stay tuned for updates.
