On September 10th 2001…

My dad and I were going with hometown friends (we lived in Jersey at the time) to the Yankee game that Monday night. They were to play Boston and it would be my first night baseball game. The excitement between seeing friends again and a Yankee - Red Sox game in September was palpable. Except it was a miserable night. Torrential rain poured down throughout the tri-state, continued when we were supposed to meet everyone at the old bat in front of the Stadium, and well into the night when we arrived at our seats. At around 8:35pm, Bob Sheppard’s voice graced the PA and informed us that tonight’s game was postponed

The expected euphoric experience was squashed due to the forecast. I was loudly sobbing as my dad dragged me out of the Stadium with 57,000 other people to beat the traffic. Simply put, I was devastated and you’d have thought the sorrow on my face was due to something nowhere near as trivial in the grand scheme of things

The next day, on September 11th 2001, I’m sitting in my 2nd grade class in New Jersey, when the principal gets on the intercom and says, “we’ll be having indoor recess today.” There wasn’t a cloud in the sky. No student understood why this was. The confusion continued upon arriving home, where I was actually delighted to see an Aunt and cousin were over the house. When in the basement playing with my cousin, a still, permanent image pierced the television. My dad came downstairs to explain me to what had happened, and to be honest, I really didn’t pay attention to him. I was too distracted with family being over the house

Until the next day, before school, and every student was talking about it. Then we talked about it in class. The severity of what had happened became increasingly clear the next day, the next months, and the next years ahead. Especially when you learn that your Aunt worked in the building next door to one of the World Trade Centers (She was unscathed and made it out in due time)

(Continued….)

Humanity and Americans lost a profound sense of innocence that day. I know I did. The world seen through a child’s eyes. Devastation over the cancellation of a baseball game was truly put into perspective the very next day. Even if it didn’t really hit me until the maturing of becoming a young adult

For those of us who were alive, we will never forget where we were on September 11th, 2001

We will never forget the events of that day

We will never forget the lives lost that day

We will never forget the response from our heroes that day @fdny @nypd @nycemergencymanagement and the United States Military

And we will never forget the resilience that us New Yorker’s and Americans demonstrated on that day

From California, to the New York Islands…

The United States of America is 250 years old today

It’s easy to forget what we take for granted living here. A stroll down my camera roll reminds me of what this country has to offer. And that is more than anyone can imagine. With the FREEDOM to do all of this

To the greatest experiment civilization has ever devised. To speak freely, to govern ourselves, and to pursue life from the standpoint of our own individualized souls

God Bless the USA

Happy 250 America. Cheers to 250 more

I’ve fallen in love with this musical so much that last night after our opening, anytime @the_soch @britneyditocco and myself would encounter a cop or red light on the road last night - we’d start belting “NOOOOOOOOOO-BODY CARES WHAT I DO!”

(You have to buy tickets and see the musical for reference. Ticket link in bio as always)
