You grew up hearing my voice in the 1990s #announcervoice #90stvshows #90sbaby #90skid #foxvideovhs by @joeciprianovo

It was 4:00am October 4th 1987 and I was on the radio at KIIS FM - Working Sunday mornings 3am to 9am was my only gig left after KIIS AM decided to let go of me and the entire staff to simulcast the FM programming on the AM. At the time, I was doing “some” VO for movie trailers and TV promos, but it was sparse and not enough to support us. Thankfully Ann had her job at KABC TV, but with a 3 year old and a 6 month old I took the only shift Program Director Gerry DeFrancisco could offer me - 1 day a week, overnights on Sunday morning where I was bringing in a whopping $175 a week 😳 On this particular morning, LA was recovering from a 5.9 earthquake that occurred 3 days earlier on October 1 - and as Madonna’s hit “Causing a Commotion” was winding down, just moments before 4:00am, I cracked the mic just as a 5.3 aftershock came rumbling down Sunset Blvd. I had gotten used to being the only person in the building in Hollywood during this overnight shift and it could be a lonely experience - having an earthquake hit while talking on the air, from the 11th floor as the building was challenging. I knew that I couldn’t freak out and I knew within seconds most of LA was about to be shaken awake, with many of those people also alone in their dark homes - that shared experience kept me calm - the fact that thousands of people would be immediately switching ON their radios made me think I really wasn’t alone. The result was my rather calm but shaky voice blanketing Los Angeles with the message - “here we go again and we’re all in this together.” #80s #80spopculture #80sbaby 80smusic @rerunthe80s @80svintagevisions @recaptured80s @retro_80s_90s by @joeciprianovo

Last time on Be Kind & Rewind… we looked back at the highs and lows of landing the most coveted time slot on FOX — right after The Simpsons!

Sounds like a guaranteed hit, right? WOO-HOO! 🎉

Not so fast… D’OH! 😬

Some shows struck gold. Others disappeared faster than you could say “Eat my shorts!”

Come rewind with me to the days when following America’s favorite animated family was both a dream opportunity and a TV programmer’s nightmare!
