Boston round 2!

The redemption tour that didn’t have much redemption. Another tough Boston. Some ups and downs through the first half, but felt very strong and positive heading into the Newton Hills. Surprise hamstring cramp got me just past mile 16, locked up. Med tent at 18 to stretch and work it out probably saved a DNF. Kept it reasonable for the next 8 miles and got that second Boston finish at 3:25:44. Not too sure what went wrong on this one, especially at mile 16 with 10 to go. Build was great minus some minor stuff, felt better and fresher pre-race than I can remember. Marathons are just long and anything can happen. Can’t run through spasms or leg locks. Probably recent race wear and tear and need even more strength work. In the end, all love for running and this is important, but it’s a still hobby and time to move on to the next life event and race vs dwelling. Rest, refocus, some reworking, keep going and building!

Enjoyed this Boston more. It’s like watching a movie for the second time, you soak it in and notice so much more. Boston is different. Great to be out there with the 🟪🐉 and ATX crew! Happy to start with @paul.tearson and see him at the finish. We talked about running Boston together years ago. Also racing with @dima_krasny_ and @zbov for the first half 👏. Caught some familiar ATX faces on the struggle bus, which carried me along with that Boston crowd. Felt the Boston magic much more this time… some redemption in that!

Another successful family marathon trip. Beantown for some racing and Portland, ME for life long friends and relaxation. We spoil ourselves and Jameson with these trips, but happy to do that with experiences and travel.

Next up - NYC full 2027! I can’t wait for it, going to be so epic running through NYC for 26.2! by @joecro83

NYC Half and Spring Break in The Big Apple. Chilly weather, tall buildings, Central Park, great shopping / food, a pop up Alicia Keys concert in Grand Central Terminal, and of course, racing through the city. We’re running it back 2027 for the NYC Marathon. by @joecro83

San Antonio Race Weekend 12/5-12/7/25 deserves a grid spot. Good times, fam, friends. Snuck away with Masters 1st for 5k and Half Marathon.
Chasing speed continues, but the PR bucket is full.

BOSTON!
Race recap - The crowds are incredible! So much fun on a tough day. Felt I was well trained and fit enough for a sub 2:50, but that was on a flatter course. The constant ups and downs of Hopkinton to Boston were just leg killers. Needed more hill work on the build, better hydration the few days before race day, and probably a longer taper. The Newton Hills and Heartbreak were about as tough as I thought, but I underestimated the rest. Ran strong and paced well through mile 22, after Heartbreak, and told myself “ok mostly downhill now, time to keep race pace” but coming down the hill off Heartbreak, I thought “uh oh.” The downs were harder than the ups, quads and hamstrings were toast. Last 4 miles I locked up once or twice, ran when I could, walked when I had to, and smiled the whole time through immense crowd support. Got offered a whole packet of Salt Stick electrolytes at one point. Ran down Boylston, which was insane, and crossed the line with a 3:08:21 overwhelmed and grateful.
Trip recap - Boston in the spring time is tough to beat. Such an awesome city. Caught great weather the whole trip. Thankful for life long friends, current friends, and new friends being a part of it all. Most importantly, grateful for being able to have Ashley and Jameson join me for these marathon adventures.

Inaugural @austininternationalhalf - same local course, fun and speed as the original 3M. Had a blast out there on a cold day and felt strong all the way through the end. Incredibly happy with the final sprint to a sub 80 minute half, which I didn’t expect that day, or ever. Shot out to the organizer @rioreina, originator @wojd_23, and the whole @purpledragon_atx crew! 🟪 Boston Marathon up next and bigger plans. LFG! by @joecro83
