Lovely visit to @rwcmd where we had a chance to reconnect with one of our fave premieres of late, the gorgeous ‘This Place, These People’ by @joeduddell

Commissioned by @kingsplacelondon this three movement work portrays significant members of the immigrant community local to the Kings Cross area of London. Joe used the Kings Cross ‘Voices Oral History’ project for source material and wrote movements deducted to Rose (from Eritrea) Käthe from Germany and in this movement (the third) a drummer from the Ukraine with a tragi-heroic story, called Ivan, is brought back to life.

Thanks also to the percussionists of the @rwcmd_perc who also performed with us in this concert!

CCQ returns to @kingsplacelondon on Saturday 31st January for our first world premiere of the year!
One of my longest standing composer collaborators is @joeduddell and his new work ‘This Place, These People’ is his first for the quartet. In three movements, it portrays three individuals - Rose, Kåthe and Ivan - who came to Joe’s attention via the Kings Cross Voices oral history project. Joe comments “I was drawn to reflecting people who had come to the UK for different reasons but joined by the common thread of making a positive contribution to both the local community and the UK”.

Other repertoire in the programme includes Kevin Volans’ extraordinary ‘Four Marimbas’ and CCQ signature works by Andy Akiho and Steve Reich.

Final tickets still available, booking strongly advised!
