I used to think people who said, “mArRiEd My BeSt fRiEnD” were so hokey and over-compensating for being boring suburbanites who have lost all sense of individuality and selfish passion for the collective “we” (as in, “we don’t like that,” “we don’t eat shellfish,” “we like watching 12 year old Law and Order SUV reruns in bed before going to sleep at 8:30…”).
Then I found Joe and discovered “we” is not the absence of “me…” It’s the augmentation of it. Love is another piece of the human puzzle. It’s another unseen layer in the depth of someone’s soul. It’s both a shared asset and incredibly intimate, personal. Your love is the thing that makes me feel the most like me.
My partner, my once-in-a-lifetime romance, my best friend. Thank you for your love. Happy first anniversary. by @joeholdman
