This past Saturday, my and Rojina's families got together for a "tolba" (طلبة), a traditional Arab pre-wedding ceremony where the groom and his family formally visit the bride’s home to ask her parents for her hand in marriage.

It was super cool to experiemce this for the first time, and of course, eat all the good Arabic food.

I wasn't able to fight a dragon for my fiancé but I fought that turkey leg line for 2 hours 🍗

She said yes!

This past Friday I proposed to my wonderful fiancé. Felt like there would be no better place than in the house of our God.

I'm so grateful to have @rojina_altwal in my life and blessed by God be able to take care of one of his daughters for the rest of my life.

Ana bahebik habibti, Ya hayati, Ya rouhi, hatibti.
(I love you my love, my life, my soul, my fiance)

Fun fact: the bracelet I'm wearing was given to me by Rojina shortly after we started dating and it has the full Our Father prayer etched on it.

Happy one year anniversary to the love of my life. I’m so glad I got to spend a year with you and I can’t wait for many more years. I love you so much and I wouldn’t want to spend my days with anyone else! Thank you for everything you do, you are the best boyfriend anyone would ask for❤️❤️ by @joekarle

Very late to the game with this one, but better late than never. This past year I tested and received my Sandan (3rd degree black belt) in Shorinji Ryu Karate Do. I'm honored to have taken the exam with a great group of people.

I also at the privilege of training with Sensei Thanh Nguyen, the current head of the Genbu Kai and the "enlightening" opportunity of being his throwing partner (as you can see 😂). This won't be a training session I will forget anytime soon.

This also marked my 17th year in the martial arts. Thank you to everyone who has been with me and challenged me along this journey. Excited to see what is going to come next!
