New profile pic; new challenges

Lately, AI has made me feel inspired, frustrated, excited, burned out at times, and occasionally completely out of my depth all in the same week (day? hour?).

I live and breathe this every day in my role, and even then there are moments when I wonder if I’m falling behind, missing something important, or just trying keep up. Ironically, AI has actually made my job harder in some ways. I’ve spent hours reading outputs, validating information, chasing down hallucinations, and rewriting versions that completely missed the mark. Instead of creating efficiencies, it has sometimes created delays. Most likely, that’s partly user error, but it’s still my experience.

When I’ve been super frustrated and almost at a breaking point, I’ve learned it’s usually a sign I need to step away for a minute. Get out of the office, get out of my head, and go do something that helps, a gritty, sweaty workout, a long walk, tech-free family time or anything that shifts my perspective. I come back realizing:

* It’s not as bad as I’ve made it in my head.
* The problem feels bigger when I’m worrying about it than when I’m actually solving it.
* I don’t need all the answers today, and quitting is not an option.
* Frustration is often a signal that I’m stretching into something new, not that I’m failing.
* The people who matter most…family, friends, colleagues, (humans) are still far more important than any technology, and spending time with them usually brings the perspective I need.

What I’m still thinking about (struggling with?) is the responsibility we have to help the next generation build the confidence and expertise they’ll need in a changing world…especially when so much of that growth comes from doing the work, making mistakes, and learning in real time.

So for now, I’m staying curious and honest. AI is creating real opportunity, but it’s also creating real challenges. I’m still working through my own frustration and learning curve, while also thinking a lot about the responsibility we have to help others adapt along the way. taken in Technology Square-Georgia Tech by @joellefox

There is a time and place for everything…

A time to be tough. A time to sweat it out. A time to work hard. A time to rest. A time to wear a dress and heels and a time to lace up! Today was my time to lace up!

The Real Bottom Line

Business has taken me everywhere—from the sun and sparkle of Beverly Hills and Sunset Blvd to chicken farms and the “other LA” (Lower Alabama), where instead of sun and five-star restaurants, there were motels, sulfur-filled air, and dinners at the local meat-and-three.

We were in Los Angeles during the Rodney King riots, and in Lower Alabama watching the Braves’ 1991 “worst to first” playoff run. Through it all, I came to realize that the real stories weren’t in the numbers—they were in the teams, the bonding, the people in the trenches with you.

There were late nights testing new cookie flavors while working on The Great American Cookie Company merger with @betsycobb1 (Dinky Doozies are 💯)…

There were the founders I bonded with during a 40-acquisition sprint at iXL in the dot-com days—friendships that turned into the “Rat Pack” and still bring us together years later.

And there have been all the team members who’ve been part of Tech Square Ventures, building a venture firm in the heart of the South’s most active investment ecosystem.

We worked hard, stayed late, and laughed at ourselves along the way.

Perhaps the greatest part is the differences. Like the gap between Los Angeles and Lower Alabama, all of us bring different opinions, belief systems, backgrounds, and paths we’ve taken since. But what keeps us coming back is finding common ground to debate, connect, and celebrate.

At the end of the day, it’s about learning, stretching, and growing with the people beside you—and that’s the real bottom line. taken in Atlanta, Georgia by @joellefox

Rizz, Pull-Up, Mid, NPC, Aesthetic….Why I Love Working with the Next Generation🫶🏼🫶🏼

Spending time with young leaders is one of the best parts of my role. Their energy and curiosity show they care. Their ease with new tools pushes me to stretch outside my comfort zone. And their slang and fresh take on the world keep me laughing and learning.

A few tips—for interns, recent grads, and reminders for myself:

• Do your homework. With AI, there’s no excuse not to be informed.
• Bring new thinking to old problems—and offer ideas, not just questions.
• Speak up, but stay humble. Don’t let ego get in the way if your idea isn’t used.
• Follow through. Own the work and move it forward.
• And when you’re stuck—ask.

I’m proud that our firm consistently invests in the next generation—and grateful for the chance to keep evolving by learning from them too.
