An infinite kind of happiness ♾️

Names are usually given to us before our first breath—a collection of individual letters carrying someone else’s hopes, history, and expectations. As a human, whose pronouns weren’t always she/her, my name carried significance to me since age 13. It was never about erasing those 13 years that created a version of who I was— it was about building a bridge between the past that raised me and the present&future I live in.

That bridge is Joelle.

Every single syllable holds a piece of my heart and the story of who I was becoming. I kept Jo at the front of my name for my parents. Growing up, that nickname was how they loved me and how they called me home. How I was distinguished amongst my cousins, and 2 letters my favorite private school teacher and beloved pediatrician so happen, called me. Keeping it wasn’t a compromise—it was an act of gratitude. It is my way of honoring the love that held me up and holding onto the roots that kept me grounded in adolescence.

Then came Elle.

For as long as I can remember, Legally Blonde was so much more than just a fictional movie—it was a masterclass in unapologetic self-worth. Elle Woods taught me that femininity is not a weakness, and that loving expressive colors and being “softer” doesn’t mean you aren’t brilliant or hold value. Folding Elle into the core of my name felt like claiming my right to be vibrantly, boldly, and undeniably a woman, without ever apologizing for the space I occupy.

And wrapped around it all is Adele—the artist whose voice has been the soundtrack to my quietest moments, teaching me depth, vulnerability, and how to stand tall in my own feelings; even when it was uncomfortable.

When you put it all together, Joelle feels like a song I’ve been trying to sing my entire life. It carries the warmth of my family, the courage of a fierce blonde, and the soul bearing artist; who all gave me warmth— but most of all ground shaking love.

So, to those struggling this #nationalrecoverymonth and #nationalsuicidepreventionmonth — don’t apologize for finally emerging out of the shadows.
