Dj Radical Sista: A Daytimers Pioneer 🎧 A recent video essay I put together for @resident_advisor + digging into the story of Radical Sista, the first female Bhangra DJ in the UK ❤️ ‘One of the first South Asian women DJs on the BBC, DJ Radical Sista became a defining voice in 80s Bradford, where the Daytimers scene offered British South Asian youth a space for joy, autonomy and resistance in the face of rising racism and political tension. That history is revisited in Built by Sound, a new mixed-reality installation tracing British South Asian youth culture from the 60s through to the height of the Daytimers. Scripted by Nikesh Shukla, narrated by Anita Rani and directed by Shehani Fernando, the experience blends personal testimonies, archival footage and an original score by Provhat Rahman. Co-created by @noghoststudio, @dialledin_ and @bradford_2025. Clips from Bhangra Beat by Leonard Bertoia by @joellerobinson
