Really just want to give a shoutout to the local film community here in Portland and around the PNW. I've been so lucky to have felt welcomed with open arms, even with the uncertainties about whether I would continue on in this career path or not. I know this thought is common for filmmakers, we all think about "getting out" at some point or another. 18 months ago I truly thought that working on set wasn't going to be sustainable for me anymore, until I started working in Portland. The sense of community and togetherness of the local crew is palpable, a breath of fresh air from the rat race in LA. It's inspiring to see people set boundaries, have each other's backs, and truly care about their work/life balance. Many crew members have a multitude of talents unrelated to film incorporated into their lives, it's inspiring. We are more than just our jobs and I've been able to differentiate that much better up here. Towards the end of my time in LA, every job brought on anxiety, doubt, and dread. Now I look forward to jobs again, something I haven't felt in a long time. Life in Oregon has helped me reframe my mindset to one of gratitude and optimism. I mean heck, we are making movies for a living?? That's pretty darn cool if you ask me.

"The Singers" on Netflix today! Check it out before the Oscars in March :)

Shot on 3-Perf Arricam LT, with @kodak_shootfilm Vision3 500T. Huge thanks to @old_fast_glass for always providing top notch service. Also need to mention @prestoncinema as the LR2 is a game changer for pulling focus on film while working in a fast paced documentary style environment where stepping in to grab marks isn't always possible. by @joemcnairy

In honor of "The Singers" winning an Oscar for best live action short film, here is some BTS!

When Sam told me about his idea for the project, it was probably the most Sam Davis thing I had ever heard. No script, non-actors, set in a dive bar, 35mm film, with impromptu singing?? I was instantly so down and knew it had the makings of something special. After years of documentary work together I felt confident that if anyone could pull this off, it would be Sam.

The team was small but mighty, and I'm lucky to have been a part of it. Everyone on the cast and crew brought their unique perspective and skillset to the table and the end result is truly magical. I couldn't have kept it sharp without @corey_cave and @phastfoodphill backing me up, and a huge thanks to @eric.ugland for covering me when I fell ill with food poisoning. Through the power of friendship, dramamine, and coconut water, I conquered nausea and crossed the finish line. Looking back, it was indeed very worth it.
