Race weekends are now family vacations too. Raced one of the toughest triathlons on earth: @infernotriathlon.

3.1k swim, 97k road bike with 2150 altitude meters, 30k mtb with 1000m followed by a 25k trail run with 2200 meters of climbing from the valley all the way to the top of the mountain. Had a lot of fun finishing at the top and in the top 🏔️

Triathlon is not just about finish lines. It’s about stories and journeys.
My story is that I started swimming late, and my journey has been about the swim for quite a while. I am so happy to have such a great partner @zone3official helping me to enjoy the journey and enabling me to tell stories how the Vanquish wetsuit helped me every stroke 🙏

Dropping out was the easy option today. So I chose the hard one: surviving a 🤮 marathon and changing my goal to: finish no matter what.

Disappointed? Very disappointed. Though you have to respect the distance and deal with bad days head-on.

- The good thing: exiting the water in the middle of the pro field and the 18th bike time. Time to learn how to run a marathon after that.
- The gold thing: Menno winning.
- The best thing: family time soon 🤰👨‍🍼

At least I’m an Ironman now, just ‘enjoyed’ my debut 75 minutes longer than planned🫣

Proud! Last dance: raced my last championship @worldtriathlon.

Never been the most talented one in the field, though racing at the highest level for >10 years fueled by ambition, hard work and a lot of ups and downs. This last one was a challenge as well: suffering from a concussion 🤕 Not trained well but mentally dedicated to finish my 25 international championship. Normal people would not have made it. Despite the symptoms I found a way. With this amount of training, becoming 17th at the cross triathlon was really decent thanks to thinking in possibilities and never giving up.

Some only look at the end result, while in fact it’s all about the journey: set goals, surprise yourself and the continuous drive to be better than yesterday. Life lessons through sports💯 Thanks all for those 15 years of adventures through sport.

I will continue being adventurous racing as a pro in Xterra and Ironman/Challenge however a new challenge at the Dutch federation will also be exciting. Hey, World Triathlon: Joep out 🫡

The END OF AN ERA 🤯I will race my 25th (!) and last elite championship of @europetriathlon and @worldtriathlon representing the Netherlands 🇳🇱at the world championships in Pontevedra end of June. I will NOT stop racing as a professional triathlete, though I will focus on pro races like @xterraplanet @ironmantri and @challengefamily as of July 2025.

15 years of international racing, with a lot of valuable life lessons, adventures, camaraderie and mostly: a lot of hard work. I’ve never been the most talented triathlete: these 25 races are the result of the love for triathlon, working my ass off and dedication to improve. It could have been more; sometimes I did not qualify, other times I was not satisfied with my fitness. That’s elite sports. 6th at Europeans and 9th at Worlds have been results of enjoying the journey towards championships, the adventures during training camps and races, and the lovely people I met. Unfortunately no medals, luckily some prize money. Racing duathlon and triathlon, road, cross and middle distance, I really enjoyed the diversity of triathlon in 5 different disciplines.

I will not stop chasing goals, just focus on different races. Swipe for some good old memories, when some of my current competitors were not even born🤪

For now: full focus on being as fit as possible to race my last world championships on June 24 and 26 in Spain 🇪🇸

Unfortunately, I was hit by a car while riding my bike on the bike path two weeks ago. It’s heartbreaking to realize that my plans and ambitions have to be put on hold. Last weekend was supposed to mark the start of race season — I was ready, in shape, and excited to compete. Sadly, I need to focus on full recovery coming period. So all race plans can go in the 🗑️.

I don’t know how long it takes to be back on track. Part of me feels lucky — it could have been much worse — but as you can imagine, this is still a huge disappointment. Hope to be back training soon so I can still race in summer until that time, I’ll be at home, bored🤞🍀 (also hope to get my bike replaced soon 🤪)
