🏡 SMALL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: FLOOR TO CEILING
Darrick Saboe thought he might someday buy into the business where he'd spent seven years working in residential sales.

Buying the whole thing?
That wasn't part of the plan.

When the previous owner asked if he'd ever consider purchasing the entire business, Darrick and his wife, Danielle, found themselves standing at a crossroads. Neither of them had ever owned a business of this size. Danielle had spent her career as a nurse, not an accountant or business manager.

Four and a half years later, it's hard to imagine Floor to Ceiling without them.

One of the things Darrick talks about most isn't flooring or window treatments. It's Danielle.
He'll be the first to tell you that she walked into this business with no background in flooring, accounting, or running a company. Today, he calls her "the most solid piece of the puzzle," saying there's no one else he'd trust to manage everything she handles each day. Watching her grow into this role has been one of his greatest joys.

That appreciation extends to the entire team. Residential sales specialists Kara and Sarah are known for helping customers find the right products without pressure, while Sean keeps the warehouse running smoothly. Darrick believes they've intentionally built a team of hardworking, genuine people who care about serving others—and it shows.

Step inside their beautiful new showroom and you'll notice something else.

Their move to a new, more visible location has brought new faces through the door, and they're slowly growing their team so they can spend more time working on the business instead of constantly working in it. But don't expect explosive growth for the sake of growth. Their vision is much simpler than that. Build something that lasts.

The Conncecting Entrepreneurs Conference that was held all across downtown St. Joseph last week Thursday and Friday was a smashing success! Thank you to the UMN Extension Community Development College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University and all the folks on the planning committee that helped make this happen. All of the over 150 people that came from all over Minnesota were so excited about our town, our businesses, and our love for community! Thanks to all who presented, volunteered, and attended the event!

When entrepreneurs come together beautiful things happen!

🍻🎸 LAJAM IS BACK, BABY.

You know fall is creeping into Joetown when Ann + Shawn Riesner are getting ready to throw one hell of a party at the LaPlayette.

LaJam started years ago with former owner Mark Zimmer, and when Ann and Shawn took over the La, they brought it back—and kept it going. This Friday marks YEAR EIGHT of music, friends, family and a whole lotta love for this little downtown of ours.

And because a good party is even better when it does some good: LaJam proudly partners with the St. Joseph Fire Department and has raised more than $25,000 for the St. Joseph Fire Relief Fund over the years. 🔥❤️

So grab your people, head downtown and help us send summer out LOUD.

One of THE BEST DAYS in St. Joseph is fast approaching... Millstream Arts Festival - has been a staple of this community for over 40 years!

Millstream Arts Festival has been bringing art, music, and community together since the early ’80s! From early beginnings on the campus of the College of Saint Benedict to Minnesota Street, out to St. Cloud and back - to Monday Night Markets! The festival has stood the test of time, adapted, grown, and stayed true to its roots.

The festival is BACK in full force on Minnesota Street in downtown Saint Joseph August 30th from 11-5pm.

Come out and support the over 50 Minnesota artists, performers, and musicians with only the best of the best from pottery to photography, jewelry and letterpress! Doggos welcome :)

IN GOOD COMPANY: @hcowoodworks Hansen & Company Woodworks

In 2004, Adam Hansen needed a job.
He found 2,000 square feet to rent, borrowed $8,000 to buy a table saw, a miter box, and a handful of tools, and started building fireplace surrounds for a local developer.

He asked if he could build the cabinets, too, but there was just one problem: he’d never built a cabinet before.
So he bought flat-packed cabinet parts from another shop, took them apart piece by piece, figured out how they worked, and taught himself the craft.

Twenty-two years later, that same curiosity is still at the heart of who Adam is. He believes curiosity builds knowledge, knowledge breeds passion, and passion creates joy. But he’s also the first to tell you there’s no shortcut.

“There’s no golden ticket. It doesn’t exist. It’s in the daily boring where champions are born, and where the vision comes to life.”
That mindset has taken Hansen & Company from a small rented shop to HCo 2.0, North America’s first fully automated frameless batch-one cabinet line, right here in St. Joseph.

But for Adam, the technology isn’t really the point. It’s what the technology makes possible: better jobs, good wages, meaningful careers, and more opportunities for people to build lives they’re proud of in the central Minnesota communities they love.

“The cabinets are just the vehicle.”
On July 23, Hansen & Company opened the doors to HCo 2.0 and invited the community inside. Adam hopes people walked away seeing more than a new manufacturing facility. He hopes they saw proof that American manufacturing is alive and well—and that innovation doesn’t have to happen somewhere else.

It can happen right here in St. Joseph.

BriAnne Hern was born in St. Joseph, raised in Little Falls, and returned to attend the College of Saint Benedict, where she was a six-time All-MIAC athlete. What began as college years quietly became the place she chose to call home.

Craig Hern grew up on a cattle ranch in Alberta, Canada, where hard work was simply part of everyday life. After his baseball career ended, life led him to St. Joseph—a place he never expected would become home.

Today, they’re raising four children just one mile from downtown, and the whole family pitches in together. It’s a life built on hard work, showing up for one another, and putting down roots in a community they love.

Thank you, Craig and BriAnne, for choosing St. Joseph—and for being such an important part of the Joetown story. ❤️
