Looking back at our Joffrey San Francisco Summer Intensive culminating performance, Stellium, brought bold expression, strength, and individuality to the stage. Under the direction of Artistic Director Josie Walsh @ballet_red , dancers expanded beyond classical form into the realm of contemporary ballet, exploring movement with both precision and freedom. Over a rigorous two weeks of training, dancers immersed themselves in daily ballet and pointe classes, contemporary ballet, modern, and contemporary dance—building a strong technical base while discovering new ways to move and express. Guided by faculty of working professionals and acclaimed choreographers, students were challenged to grow artistically and technically in every class. Featuring original works by Andrew Brader, Kenedy Kallas, Sam McReynolds, and Josie Walsh, Stellium captured the dedication, artistry, and growth that defined this program. Each piece reflected the unique voices of our dancers and the fearless commitment they brought to the process. Every summer, as I step into the studio to lead my Joffrey programs @joffrey.red @joffreysf @joffreywestla @joffreyschool, I’m reminded why I fell in love with this art form in the first place. When I was a young dancer, I dreamed of an environment where artistry, technique, discipline, creativity, and soul were equally nurtured. A place where students felt both deeply challenged and deeply seen. Now, many years later, I have the privilege of creating that very experience for the next generation. Watching these dancers push beyond their limits, support one another, and discover new layers of themselves is the greatest reward. It’s not just about technique, it’s about unlocking artistry, courage, and individuality. Teaching is my heartbeat.
