Munich Jewellery Week 2024
Some new work for Fun and Games a @dialoguecollective and @84ghz.schmuck production.

My work is often centred around identity, specifically looking at badges and medals. For this project I thought about awards given at community fairs, raffle prizes and the domestic, often textile element of craft that can be prevalent at these events. War is another recurring theme, and one which seems to never go away. Awards given out at village events, contradicted with a material associated with war. Somehow they seemed to connect. I have explored patchwork, cutting up small pieces of a 1950”s French military parachute, sewing them together and framing them within the physical boundary of silver and the conceptual one of a badge.

This project has sparked a new lease of life into my making practice and I hope to develop the series further over the course of the year. Please do go and see the show in Munich if you’re there. As always @dialoguecollective have pulled it out of the bag and it promises to be an exciting and inspiring show.

Stainless steel and vitreous enamel plate. 2019. Made as an artist in residence at London Metropolitan University jewellery department and first shown in a group show called In Residence with incredible makers such as @c.m.partridge @naamahaneman @maaritliujewellery @shan_fran @isabellebusnel to name a few. Organised and realised with support from Simone Ten Hompel.

Thinking about factories, tableware and industry. The result being the antithesis of these things as a fully handmade object.

Emerging back into the jewellery world like a tortoise in a glass factory. Gently gently.

In October last year I started teaching on the MA jewellery course @uca_jewellery_silversmithing which I’m loving. This alongside the recent exhibition in Munich with @isabellebusnel @petrabishai and @maudtraon has been the most confidence boosting, life affirming thing. I’m back bebe!!

@katharinadettar recent post about my immigrant badges has also given me the push I needed to try and get a website up again. It’s fairly basic at the moment but I’ll try to keep adding to it.

Crucially it’s a vehicle for sales. I only have 10 of those badges left so if you’re new to my work and fancy supporting me you can now buy them as well as the fragile badges directly from the website. The link is in my bio.

I’m currently viewing new workshop spaces so I’ll hopefully be making again in the next month or two (or three, I don’t know how long it will take) and enamelling again very soon.
