Clearing I, 2024, watercolour and gouache on surplus cardboard, 7cm x 9.5cm x 2cm. Wall hung or placed on a shelf / table. I have made a couple of small works with a concave surface. This is my entry to the @canalboatcontemporary miniatures challenge. Artists used to sometimes use a concave mirror to project subjects onto a canvas, this work hasn’t involved a concave mirror but I feel going smaller and using this form has given the painting a different perspective.#canalboatcontemporary #minatureart #concave #workoncardboard #paperpulp #jogsheppard #smallart #propositionstudios #surplusmaterials #miniatureschallenge by @jogsheppard

Small Works is the current show thoughtfully curated @newhavenartprojects My painting has an interest in getting watercolours to read a bit like oils, while still keeping some watery drawing traits. Wonderful to take part in the sculpture trail last weekend during @mertonartsfestival Art in the Park. I was interested in how installing this piece leaning on a fallen tree in the park got me thinking about how the deadwood was still part of life, the ecosystem for insects, invertebrates, fungi, with the sculpture suggesting an organic structure growing within the negative spaces of the surplus industrial steel.
