To do it once was already a magical moment.

To do it a second time was something I didn't think would be possible.

But I did and I had the absolute honour to represent Malaysia once more in Ariyoshi Hiroiki no Monomane The World.

Boy oh boy, what an experience it truly was.

Going into this season, changes were made. This time, I would don an all-red suit and impersonate Hiromi Go. Go was one of the singers I wish I could have gotten into when I first watched a performance of 2 Oku 4 Senman no Hitomi on a HEY! HEY! HEY! Music Champ special in 2007.

In a time when digital music platforms like Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal weren't as prevalent as they are today, I wasn't as resourceful discovering songs and artists. When I started doing Karaoke JOYSOUND streams again in 2025, I decided to learn songs I've yet to sing before.

That was where Hiromi Go came in. Several attempts at singing 2 Oku 4 Senman no Hitomi -Exotic Japan- on stream, I felt like I could give him a try should a new season come, leading to this.

I didn't win, let alone got a single vote, but the challenge was a shot worth pursuing.

Thank you to everyone at Monomane The World for another amazing opportunity, to Ariyoshi-san and Inoue-san for being amazing hosts, the judges for being wonderful and my fellow participants for being awesome. And to all who has been supportive of me, thank you for having my back.

Now that I'm home after another memorable trip to Japan, the work doesn't stop. I'm going to keep working, keep learning and keep discovering. As long as I can keep myself grounded, focused, driven and motivated, anything is possible.

I have plenty more dreams I want to fulfill.

Here it is, my Monomane The World performance in full!

I impersonated one of my all-time favourite singers, @toshinobu_kubota, while singing his most iconic song, LA LA LA LOVE SONG, the opening theme to the 1996 TV drama, Long Vacation starring Takuya Kimura and Tomoko Yamaguchi.

To be very honest, I have no idea how or where to start with this.

On one hand, a dream I had for 12 years has finally come true.

On the other hand, there came a time in my life when I thought I will never sing again due to suffering from PTSD.

And after a long wait and against all odds, I find myself standing on the Monomane The World stage in Fuji TV.

For the longest time, I've always wondered how awesome and fulfilling it would be to sing on a Japanese TV show, although in this case as the word Monomane in the title implies, I have to impersonate an artist I enjoy listening to. Some may find that to be for lack of better term anti-climatic, but if there's one thing I've learned during this journey, impersonating an artist's voice and mannerisms while making use of the singing techniques I've picked up over the near-25 years I've been performing on stage is way harder than anyone would think.

For the show, I performed LA LA LA LOVE SONG as it was determined I will be impersonating one of my favourite singers ever, Toshinobu Kubota. To think I would be performing a song I was first introduced to by a friend way back in 2003, I couldn't have asked for a better way to make my debut on Japanese TV.

Did I win? No, not in a literal sense, but figuratively, I feel like I'm on top of the world as the biggest winner of them all because I faced my fears, insecurities and self-doubts and redeemed myself after my last appearance on a TV show a few years ago. Additionally, being the first Malaysian representative in Monomane The World was an accomplishment nobody can take away from me.

I'm so blessed and appreciative to everyone in the Monomane The World production team who helped me manifest this longtime dream I thought would never be possible. To my fellow participants (I have a separate post just for all of you), thank you for being some of the most talented group of performers I had the absolute pleasure and honour to share the stage with.

I'm still in disbelief, but the fact of the matter is I'm truly the happiest I've ever been since forever and I'll do everything in my power to never have that happiness be taken away from me ever again. taken in Fuji TV by @johan_singa

Amazingly fun and productive day today!

It feels great to meet new people and build new connections together. I haven't felt this accomplished in quite awhile.
