When two people obsessed with joy find a teeny tiny kids train in the park... You ask if adults can ride together, too 🤭 (I'm the one who can't stop waving at the camera, HAHA)

A weekend that I'll remember when I'm old and grey. Laughter and crying and laughter and crying on an endless loop. Vows recited in two languages (and a sneaky third). Spanish omelettes. Reggaeton. Endless glasses of tinto de verano. No sleep. Pomegranates sculpted into every surface of Granada. So much beauty.

Friends who feel like family - like home.

Thank you Andalusia for holding all our love and joy. Congratulations Jenny and Francisco, thank you for bringing all of us together. We love you! 🥹❤️🦋 by @johannapatton

what do you get when your family plans a trip to Germany the summer before your senior year?!

apparently, a senior portrait session I can't stop thinking about 🥰

At the shoot I found out that Izzy’s brother had taken his own senior photos in Greece. (okay, I was intrigued. was this a tradition? if so, can i be adopted? 🤓)

Morocco. Spain. Egypt. more and more countries started naturally making their way into our conversation as we wandered through Nuremberg.

somewhere along the way, I found myself thinking: how incredibly beautiful it is to share the experience of travel. to collect places together as a family, raise children who are curious about the world, and then to keep exploring it alongside them?!?!

that’s definitely the kind of mother I’d love to be someday.

I feel so lucky that photography keeps introducing me to people like this, aaaand I think that might be my favorite part. not just taking the photos, but getting to be with someone for a few hours and discover a little piece of their world. (and let's be real, bond over our deep love of humanity!!)

congratulations on your senior year, sweet Izzy!! may you always stay open, curious & guided by love. 🤍

I spent 8.5 years imagining this day 🥹

When my family landed I had A PLAN. The whole city was mapped out in my brain, every corner that I wanted them to fall in love with the same way I had since moving to Nürnberg.

We took the U-Bahn straight to the old town. We'd start there, then head down to Frauenkirche, Sebald, wrap through Weißerbergasse... Maybe even the castle? Plans! Things! So many pretty places! Locations to tick off of the imaginary list in my mind to make their trip as worth it as possible!!

But in true Lupita fashion, my mom found most delicious smelling store in a 10 foot radius (@lushnuernberg ) and made friends with a worker there immediately. She left the shop deciding she was going to bring her girl Brigitte a jar of salsa.

Then she found a fruit stand.

Then she stopped to take a video of the Hare Krishna dancers to share with my step-dad back home. While I was mentally checked out and thinking of our next location, she kept stopping things I didn't even notice.

And I had to smile while watching my mother take it all in. Laughing loud, noticing the world around me, and making friends with strangers is how I was raised. Why was in such a rush when really, all we were here to do was be with each other?

We could be trapped in an elevator (which nearly happened in our Italy adventures HAHA) and my family would be laughing from delirium, cracking jokes, and finding some way to roast each other.

I always thought this trip would mean showing them all the beautiful things in town (which we still did so much of!) but my mama was reminding me of something so much more precious just by being herself. Presence. Not living to tick things off of an imaginary list, but to exist and sink into the moment right in front of her.

My throat ached by the end of the day from laughing so much.

Love you with my whole heart @lvillanu , thank you for teaching me that the best thing in life is just being together. 🥹 taken in Nürnberg by @johannapatton

Yeah, a proposal planning call is always so much more than planning the logistics of a photoshoot 🥹

Usually it's someone telling me about the life they've built, their cats at home, how they have been made a better person because of their partner, and hearing the story about how they *knew*

I promise you, all you need is one day in my life as a photographer to believe in the kindest, most gentle love 🫶🏽 taken in Nürnberg by @johannapatton

My youngest brother and I decided we'd make a bucket list to soak up the last days of his visit in Germany.

The bucket list consisted of small things.
matcha!
movie nights!
making bracelets!
baking banana bread!

Every time we crossed one off, we'd stop and take two polaroids - one for Javi, so he could turn them into a scrapbook when he got back to Kansas, and one for me to hang up in our apartment.

And then it hit me. I realized that none of these moments would have looked especially important if you'd walked past us.

Yet... these are now the polaroids currently hanging up on my wall right now, and I smile every time I walk past them. And on the other side of the world, they're sitting on my little brother's bookshelf.✨

If I'm being honest, that's probably why I love family photography so much.

Because maybe the photographs we treasure most aren't the ones from the biggest days. It's the photo I have of us sitting down, drinking matcha in the city center. The simple things are, and all ways be, the things I want to remember. ❤️

Thank you to the Troxell family for trusting me to photograph their sweet family. ❤️
