Flattered beyond words at the nice things @ellecosimano , @mrstevenrowley and @levacrosen had to say about KILLER VIBES and also just flattered in general by this incredible trailer the team at @minotaur_books put together (like y’all it’s amazing????). KILLER VIBES is out 7/14/26 for anyone needing a mystery with a plucky bisexual stoner detective, a big bag of money and lots of chaotic Austin energy. taken in Austin, Texas by @john.fram

⏳ Midnight is coming. And no one at the Brake Inn Motel is safe.

In the remote Texas desert, strangers check in for the night… but only some will live to see the morning. Part locked-room mystery, part pulse-pounding horror, The Midnight Knock by @john.fram will keep you guessing until the very last page—and we still can’t get over the twist that explodes on page 152.👀 by @john.fram

COVER REVEAL!
THRILLED to announce the cover and release date for the next Peter Key mystery, BIG CULT ENERGY, PLUS an excerpt available exclusively on Crimereads!

Once again, the incredible team at @minotaur_books have knocked this cover out of the park. Like the book, this has it all: cherries, mysterious lizards, a little touch of the weird and a sly sense of humor. I’ll include the official synopsis of the book below, but for now, let me just say that BIG CULT ENERGY is the most fun I’ve ever had writing a novel. It’s twisty and complex, sexy and suspenseful, slightly absurd and—I think—even funnier than KILLER VIBES. It has all of the characters you’ve come to love and plenty more you’ll adore (or despise, where appropriate) and, perhaps most important of all, it has my pride and joy, the bisexual disaster child Peter Key, navigating life as a weed-addled member of the landed gentry.
BIG CULT ENERGY is big, it’s bonkers, and it’s coming *June 1, 2027* just in time for summer. Preorders are available now, and every preorder makes a huge difference in a series like this one. Head to @crimereads to read the excerpt, and watch this space for lots more Peter Key news very soon. taken in Austin, Texas by @john.fram

New free post is up on my Substack, in which I discuss Nora Roberts, the long boat movie and the overwhelming reception to my queer Austin private detective. Link in bio or just remember JohnFram.substack.com taken in Austin, Texas by @john.fram

The first book (!) in a new mystery series featuring a lazy & lovable bisexual stoner.

When Peter Key’s already upended life takes a twist upon inheriting his estranged uncle’s house in Austin, TX, he launches into a world of private investigation, gambling, & predatory realtors.

I read Killer Vibes in the sky, on the road, & in a pool. It kept me in good company & offered the perfect summer refreshment. I am quite honestly desperate for book 2 please & thank you @john.fram!

Book one is out now where books are sold :) by @john.fram
