It’s here! The wonderful new Dinosaur Jr. record is out! It’s been 5 years since the last one. I had a wonderful time mixing it to tape and Mark Allan Miller and Steve Fallone did a great job recording and mastering! there’s such a joy to waking from sleep with a song idea in your head, playing it sleepily into your voice notes, walking it straight into the studio and having your band family flesh it out into a last minute lagniappe song to mark the end of basic tracking. 13 songs in 4 days. Now onto overdubs and vocals. Been another great creative week at our New Orleans home base @marignystudios with @john_agnello and @rickgnelson at the controls. Think we’re making something cool, kids.

This week's Record of the Week goes inside the strangest production in the Beach Boys catalog. "Surf's Up" survived a scrapped album, a reluctant Brian Wilson (he called his own demo a "piece of $#!T"), and a five-year gap between its pieces. Somehow, it still plays like one continuous idea, and many consider it the crown jewel of the Beach Boys' recorded work. Link in bio 🎛️ by @john_agnello
