Forever grateful that this is my work.

Keep me in your prayers that this work of showing the beauty of our faith bears fruit, and most especially, doesn’t distract from what is most important — the interior life.

“A jeweler will prefer the smallest diamond to several sapphires; and so, in the order established by God, our intimacy with Him gives Him more glory than all possible good works, procured by us, for a great number of souls, but to the detriment of our own progress (in the spiritual life).

He (God) prefers sometimes to let an enterprise go by the board, if He sees it becoming an obstacle to the charity of a soul engaged in it. But as for Satan, he, on the contrary, does not hesitate to encourage a purely superficial success, if he can by this success prevent the apostle from making progress in their interior life. To get rid of a diamond, he (satan) is quite literally willing to allow us a few sapphires.” ~ Dom Jean-Baptiste Chautard, The Soul of the Apostolate. by @john_girone

His Eminence Cardinal Sarah celebrating Mass at Princeton University (@aquinas.institute) during his visit to the United States to launch his new book “The Song of the Lamb.”

Getting to meet and film with the Cardinal two weeks ago was one of the greatest blessings of this year. I was deeply impacted by his book “The Power of Silence” so it was a great pleasure to be able to meet him and thank him for his many gifts to the Church.

God bless Cardinal Sarah for his faith and fidelity to the Church!

A quick set of thoughts on Pope Leo’s recent comments on AI and Art.

Just because there’s a *perceived* short-term benefit to using generative AI in regard to sacred things, it has be to revolted against. by @john_girone

The Church needs Beauty.

“If such is the beauty of visible things, what shall we think of invisible things?” ~ St. Basil the Great.

God bless @florianisacredmusic and their pursuit of beauty.

This Kyrie was composed by @thejohnpaulr and has quickly become one of my favorites. The production of new Sacred Music is a blessing to the Church and her efforts of making the liturgy transcendent and beautiful.

Can’t wait to start sharing what we captured during this week filming for @florianisacredmusic at the Collegium event at @thomas.aquinas.college by @john_girone

A week of beauty with Floriani at the Collegium.

@florianisacredmusic is pursuing the great work of renewing Sacred Music in the Church today, a “treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art.” (Sacrosanctum Concilium 112, Vatican II)

The Church has been very clear in her documents on liturgy that Sacred Music, and especially Gregorian chant, are themselves “necessary or integral parts of the solemn liturgy.” (Sacrosanctum Concilium 112, Vatican II)

When one has the great pleasure of being exposed to the serenity of millennia old chant, the beauty of the great polyphonic choral works, and the majesty of the many orchestral pieces born in heart of the Church which have formed western culture, they are experiencing that great patrimony that most of the saints that you and I can name have experienced throughout the ages. We are able to experience that ever ancient, ever new beauty that deepened the saints’ experience of God’s presence in the liturgy, and fueled their spiritual lives.

It is no wonder, then, why the Church in her documents speaks to the importance and “pre-eminence” of continued practice and teaching of Sacred Music so that it may be “preserved and fostered with great care.” (Sacrosanctum Concilium 114, Vatican II)

We must go about this work, then, that the Church Herself is asking of us diligently. In this age of modernity, our great liturgical patrimony has been almost completely lost to the eyes and ears of our parishioners. They are missing out on one of the greatest treasures that Holy Mother Church is telling us we ought to offer them.

That’s why Floriani is setting out, through the work of the collegium hosted at the beautiful @thomas.aquinas.college, to train these attendees to be able to lead in the revival of Sacred Music in their own parishes throughout the country.

The collegium is a week long liturgical immersion for the purpose of forming musicians to be able to lead the revival of Sacred Music in their parishes.
