‘Serra Angel’ Acrylic & Airbrush (Secret Lair, Artist Series) Art Director Tom Jenkot. After last nights showing the cards. I will now show the full art, over the next 4 days. I was mostly allowed to do my own thing and kept the design very simple. This painting features my wife Pat and the most meaningful art I have done yet. Painted a few years ago now (this set was delayed) and I almost could not finish it due to my health, but I did! And I wanted my version to be all about the strength of love and compassion. The narrative is all about connection, sharing and that electric glow that appears when energy flows. This will be seen as part of a video at MagicCon in Las Vegas next weekend, showing the development of the art and my musical soundtrack of how I heard the painting. ..

‘Emrakul’ Secret Lair, Artist Series. Airbrush & Acrylic. Here I wanted to depict the destroyer if everything, about to do her stuff. So threat level maximum and go biblical. I could not do better than the art others have already done, but wanted to add my ‘land’ element, with a run like hell vibe. I used a edge to edge design and knew most of the below would get hidden under the text box. I am comfortable with purple and orange, with some blue. These colours always feel perfect for fantasy. . .

Just fell out of an old wallet :) probably 39 years ago? Fun fact. Pat never wore make up in the early years, I loved that so much. by @johnavonartist

Random Polaroid photo of Pat in her flat. Probably early in our relationship. I used her so often for reference. This one is so beautiful. Really can’t remember what job it was! by @johnavonartist

Uncomfortable Trauma Drawing. I’m finding moving house rather hard. The packing and deciding. And the money stuff. Pushes all the insecurities! If you’re struggling. Try getting it out. The darker the better. If it’s irrelevant or meaningless. It has a point of catharsis. “Draw out Pain” and then you see it and don’t need to be it. ,

‘The Unravelling’ I’ve been non stop packing up our house, with Pat, to finally leave our Home of 35 years, and put on the market. Then we move away to a new house and new area. It’s been a very cathartic and challenging experience. For the last few evenings, this drawing emerged. I don’t really understand what it is, only that Pat says ‘it’s The Unravelling’ a release and all the complexities of looking at decades of stuff and what truly matters, and the tangle of what needs to go?.
