HARRY STYLES x Jules Buckley Orchestra

A truly magical gig with @julesbuckleymusic and @harrystyles from back in the summer at the Royal Festival Hall. We played a selection of Harry’s brilliant songs alongside two cracking pieces of Jules’ and a cover of Bridge Over Troubled Water that floored me and everyone else in the room. Proper!

Playing in the percussion section alongside @samwilson323 and @paulithepsm , we covered all tuned percussion, taiko’s and low drums, wine glasses and many other sound effects, samples and lots more! Also a joy to watch, listen and talk music/drums/vintage cymbals with the wonderful @tomskinnermusic for a few days too.

Included here are a few clips of the show from the YouTube channel “Gallery of Styles”, the wonders of the internet! A stage full of super talented friends old and new…a serious pleasure! Live music is the best♥️🙏🏻♥️

WEYES BLOOD x Jules Buckley Orchestra

A wonderful time playing in the orchestra for @weyesblood at this years Proms. Such good music and to play with a great orchestra of friends in this room is always a joy. I particularly enjoyed nerding out on @joeywaronker ‘s amazing playing from the records.

I gave my beautiful Camco’s a rare outing and had a deep snare for a couple songs. I swapped out a Ludwig 400 cob, mid tuning, and a Gretsch cob, high tuning, as my main snare. Plenty of mutes and a full set of beautiful @istanbulagop 30th anniversaries and some vintage cymbals. Thin sticks, a metal thundersheet and an incredibly pleasing set list for fonts and presentation completes the set-up!

Feeling so lucky to get to do things like this. The thrill of piecing the music and show together in a relatively short time frame with such a talented bunch of band, crew and arrangers is something I relish and do not take for granted. Always an element of the unknown right up until the gig, keeps you on your toes. A thrill like no other. Thanks for having me @julesbuckleymusic

ST VINCENT - Live in London! - OUT NOW 💥

Thanks to @julesbuckleymusic for having me and congratulations to everyone involved.

Really went in on the details on these songs and arrangements - lots of snares, electronics, triggers, percussion, orchestral bass drum… full kitchen sink kinda thing! I feel it really comes across thanks to the ridiculously amazing mix from @tomgelissen

Stoked to have played a small part in Florence & The Machine’s NUMBER ONE record, Everybody Scream. 🥇🏆🥇

You can hear my percussion on the “chamber version” of the album.
Goat and calf headed drums, very old snares, even older woodblocks and tambourines, bowed vibraphone, home-made bottletop rattles and key chimes I made with my Mum and brother-in-law, gongs and even a timpani that wouldn’t fit in the studio !! 🤣

ST VINCENT - BBC Proms, Royal Albert Hall 🥁💙🥁

A joy to once again work under the baton of maestro @julesbuckleymusic at the BBC proms, this time for the music of St Vincent. Some amazing arrangements of music I’d been a fan of for some time to get my teeth stuck into.

I ended up piecing together a kit that tried to recreate every specific detail of the tones coming from the records. I used 4 snares, an orchestral bass drum, electronic pads and triggers, metallic percussion, different bass drum beaters and mutes/dampening for the drums as well as my very first time using an 18”floor tom, 4legs on it, boooooom!

Special thanks to @istanbulagop for supplying me with the new Xist Dry Dark crash, so satisfying. Turk bells used as hi-hats are awesome as are the 30th anniversary mediums. Just the best cymbals out there!

Included some of Jules’ hilarious directions which I always love. The gig is available to watch and listen to online so please do check it out and let me know what you think.

@mrgoldie new record Alpha Omega is OUT NOW under the Rufige Kru umbrella. I share drum duties alongside two friends and heroes @adambettsdrums and @spaven23 I am so deeply honoured to be included in this work. Hard hitting underground music that packs a serrrrrrrious punch and I thank Goldie and @submotive for having me ❤️

To celebrate we hit 17 cities in 21 days over 🇺🇸, 🇪🇺 and 🇬🇧. To see and hear audiences react to the music was such a buzz - everyone as one together, in the moment and feeling the energy, what live music is all about. And with a team of legends ❤️

FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE
A Symphony of Lungs - Live at the Royal Albert Hall

Album is OUT NOW and “Drumming Song” from said album is playing in the background of this selection of photos. Many amazing moments from this gig and hats off, as always, to maestro @julesbuckleymusic Included here are some examples of Jules’ direction which always crack me up 🤣🤣

I put together a fairly unique drum set for this show and tried to cover an extremely wide sonic palette capturing the earthy, natural and medieval tones of @florence I utilised old calf head toms, small snare and concert tom next to the usual kick, snare and regular toms. Vintage tambourines, sizzle splash cymbal and shakers featured alongside brooms, chopsticks and my homemade key ring chimes.

@istanbulagop cymbals sounded incredible as ever and I used different models to my usual kind of setup to capture what I needed for the music.
