Meet @johnironmonger : the novelist who has lived a few stories of his own

Born and raised in East Africa, John has a doctorate in zoology, has researched elephant populations in Kenya and taught zoology on the edge of the Sahara. He was once an expert on freshwater leeches. He has driven across the Sahara in a £100 banger, helped set a world record for speed-reading Shakespeare, and once found himself meeting Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jared Diamond in a forest in the middle of Sumatra.

So, when John writes about wild places, human nature and our complicated relationship with the natural world, he isn’t simply doing his research… He’s drawing on a life that has taken him to some very unusual places.

That curiosity is at the heart of his fiction. His novels combine big questions with irresistible stories, moving effortlessly between science, history, humour, adventure and the deeply human business of trying to understand one another.
