A new gallery “Hands/Manos” has been added to my website. This ongoing series of platinum palladium prints depicts faceless portraits of boleros (shoeshines, bootblacks) and vendors in Mexico to highlight the quiet dignity of their work and its importance in everyday Mexican life. Included in the series is an image of my father’s hands. My father shined shoes in bars and on the streets of Philadelphia as a child and later worked as a talented mason for over fifty years. A new gallery of an ongoing series “Veiled/Velado” - inspired by silent films and classic Mexican cinema - has been added to my website.When making portraits in Mexico, I ask sitters if they’re up for doing a few frames interacting with vintage veils picked up on eBay and the La Lagunilla flea market in Mexico City.
