Traction alopecia is more common than many people realize.

It’s a form of hair loss caused by repeated tension on the hair follicles, often from tight hairstyles, braids, extensions, or weaves. Over time, this pulling can damage the follicles and lead to permanent hair loss, particularly around the hairline and temples.

In this case, a 52-year-old woman underwent an FUT procedure with 2,600 grafts to address the areas affected by traction alopecia.

The goal was to restore the affected areas while carefully considering her natural hairline, hair direction, and overall density.

Early intervention is important, as traction alopecia can become permanent when the follicles are damaged beyond recovery.

Unfortunately, stories like this happen more often than people realize.

I’ve met patients who put their trust, their money, and ultimately their appearance in the hands of the wrong people. In some cases, they realize too late that the clinic or person they trusted was not what they claimed to be.

A hair transplant is a medical procedure. Take the time to research your surgeon, understand who will actually be performing your procedure, look into their experience, and make sure you feel comfortable before making a decision.

A lower price or a convincing sales pitch should never matter more than your safety and your long term result.

Do your research. Ask questions. Know exactly who you are trusting with your hair.

This patient had two FUT procedures years ago and came back today for an FUE hair transplant.

After multiple FUT surgeries, performing another strip procedure can mean creating or extending another linear scar and relying on enough scalp laxity to safely close the area.

With FUE, we can harvest individual follicular units directly from the donor area without removing another strip of scalp, making it a great option for selected patients who have already undergone FUT.

The best technique always depends on the patient’s donor area, previous scars, scalp laxity, and long-term hair restoration plan.
