On YouTube there’s an eight-minute documentary about Landscape by the person (or people) behind @80snewwavemusicdk that tells some of our story, with pictures taken from our website and other online archives, and a prominent, giant Carol McNicoll teacup complete with animated tea splash.
The ‘Einstein a Go-Go’ video directed by Brian Grant (MGMM) can be seen im the background, though there’s none of our actual music. There are more than 100 comments, and most of them are kind and / or interesting, which feels like a @YouTube first. Link in bio.

For Landscape’s first Christmas party, Monday 13 December 1976, we invited genial genius saxophonist Lol Coxill and Spiteri (a terrific Latin band that Peter played with) to share the bill at the legendary 100 Club. Percussionist Rebop turned up, climbed on the stage and (much to our surprise) started playing along with us on Spiteri’s congas, still set up. A memorable evening, sadly not recorded, full of die-hard fans and friends.

(The voice at the start of U2XME belongs to Peter, who you can also hear singing the words ‘Einstein a Go-Go’ in the slightly more famous song of that name.)

If you’re anywhere near Berlin on Friday, 21 August, I recommend you buy a ticket to see the Ben Barritt band at Luftschloss, Tempelhofer Feld.
My favourite live experience last year was listening to Ben’s band perform at this great open-air venue on the site of Berlin’s original airport.
The occasion (3/9/25) was a launch event for Ben’s 3rd album Reunion, featuring an expanded line-up with horns and backing vocals (Leona Berlin).
It was a perfect, balmy Berlin evening, and the packed audience listened to Ben’s music as the twilight sky turned deep blue and then black over the former airfield.
The songs feature catchy hooks, engaging harmonic twists, infectious grooves and smart lyrics. I often think of Ben’s line about the ‘tiny slate of glass’ we’re all hooked on (in ‘Use Your Power For Evil’).
In the crowd last year were friends, family, fellow musicians and superfans who knew all the words.
We had a splendid time. If you’re near Luftschloss on Friday, buy a ticket and/or tell your Berlin friends.

I went to the Barbican Cinema last night to see Köln 75, a film about the Keith Jarrett solo piano concert whose live recording on Manfred Eicher’s ECM label became the best-selling solo piano album of all time.

As a sparky intro explains – comparing Jarrett’s performance to Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel commission – the movie is about the ‘scaffolding not the ceiling’.

Left to right: writer/director Ido Fluk, Vera Brandes (legendary live jazz producer), Mala Emde, who plays the 18-year-old Brandes, and movie producer Sol Bondy – possibly Brandes, or Eicher, to Fluk’s Jarrett. It was chaired by Nikki Yeoh.

There were several good questions from the audience (which prompted great answers) and it was nice to see old friends Laurence Aston and John Lewis at the event.

The film in German and English, gripping in parts, moving in others, often quite funny, evoking that mid-1970s moment with great attention to detail: hair, clothes, telephones and relentless smoking. There are glimpses of fly posters featuring my mentor Ian Carr, Barbara Thompson and many other #jazz heroes of the time.

Köln 75 tells the story of a famous recording that the film-makers were not allowed to use on the soundtrack. Extraordinary. Highly recommended. I’d give it four stars out of five.
