i did this today. i've always played with my looper and the keyboard, but never used good audio. i made up some lyrics to an ooooold nate henricks song and just had fun. i have never done the whole put a bunch of videos together before, but i just wanted to test it out. i'm far from an influencer. taken in Viroqua, Wisconsin by @johnmarkhatfieldmusic

i took that chill riff and started to try to write something about my daughters.

most bed times we talk about the best and worst parts of our day. i ask what was one part of their day they were proud of themselves, and something they’re thankful for. sometimes i tell some made up stories. i have 3 favorites, and the names get changed for fun.

they’ll probably forget this part of their lives at some point, but hopefully the closeness and the self awareness they’re learning will stay with them. by @johnmarkhatfieldmusic

so i am a self learned cello player and quit after a table saw accident in 2010. i bought a different one in 2022 after my wife randomly left.

i wanted to loop it, so i was happy to see a cheap acoustic electric on fb marketplace in my area. i also bought a violin after stopping that too, but some sort of nerve damage happened to my left hand after an inflamed disc in my back wanted to bother me after waking up with incredible pain that stayed around for a week or so. just a few weeks after buying them too. i still haven’t gotten feeling back in three fingers in my left hand, and i also accidentally put my hand in a dust collector fan and started to have arthritic feelings. for some reason the universe doesn’t want me to use my left hand for anything.

anyways…finally got back into it and i hooked up a harmoniser pedal to it in the last few days. it’s going to get interesting.

the first video is using the octave mode, the second is one of the harmonising modes. by @johnmarkhatfieldmusic

i change the way dave matthews plays things not because i can’t play it the other way, but because i like how it adds a different element to the song. this song originally has no capo and is played completely differently. it goes F# to G in the verse. i play B major and C major and somehow it totally works.

ignore the weird breathing thing i do. i have no idea i’m doing it and apparently can’t change it.

i always thought the breakdown in this song didn’t flow well and for some reason i like changing it to 6/8 briefly seemed natural.

i changed the way i play the verse, the chorus, the breakdown and added some lyrics. sometimes dave just mumbles a melody, and i try to make it fit with the vibe of the song.

i’m revamping a bunch of dave matthews songs. i always play a very old and rare version of “the stone” that ends with a bit of an elvis song, but i never thought it transitioned back to the stone well. i think i got it now.

i use a lot of alternate tunings which also inhibits playing live as changing tunings can be finicky especially when playing weird extended chords.

this is my favorite alt tuning and one of my favorite parts i’ve made up. the song has words, but i never really sing them.

I don’t exactly know where i should play out. at open mics, i feel pressured to entertain. people want to listen to up-beat fun stuff. no one cares about fingerstyle guitar music. if i have my own show no one would come because I’m not a charismatic person. at a farmer’s market it’s too quiet.

i’m going to play this sunday at a local art market and i’ll only play instrumental stuff that sorta sounds like this. by @johnmarkhatfieldmusic
