Q3 UPDATE
It's double sweatshirt weather, but not quite long underwear season, a predicament only New Englanders will understand, as lately the temperature will be 25 at night and 70 during the day. Walker is getting big, he's put on a ton of muscle due to our daily uphill hikes, which he enjoys more than I do. Since the last update, he's had a molar extracted because it was cracked to the root, and he had another porcupine encounter - 150 quills this time - I didn't explicitly ask but which I'm sure qualifies as a "major quilling." His winter coat is coming in nicely and he enjoys all the attention he gets when he's out in public. And there is still so much wood to be harvested and split, this may be the first year I order wood delivery, and I blame Walker for taking up my chopping time. 🐺

On the CREEM front, our 17th issue is in homes now. The cover is a Ryan McGinley shot of Deadhead and now Deadhead doc producer Chloë Sevigny, and there's features on everything from The Cramps to John Lydon (which made some of our Instagram audience big mad) to Anthrax to Nothing. Fan Club members got a special Jimi Hendrix edition of CREEM as well, and beer drinkers across five states have successfully made our Boy Howdy Cream Ale SOLD OUT, or, as they call it in the beer biz, "depleted." Keep your eyes peeled for the next drop of beer, and the next issue of the magazine coming in December. by @johnmartiniv

Summer Q2 update!

Despite a couple brutally hot but mercifully short stretches, and that bizarre apocalyptic week with Canadian smoke filled air, it's been a pretty perfect New England summer. Walker and I have been hiking every day, and we're halfway to our current goal of redlining all 60+ miles of trail in the nearby Pisgah State Park, which at over 13,000 acres is the largest state park in NH. We have found lots of weird stuff in the woods not marked on maps such as an explosives testing site, a "big sawdust pile" according the sign (truth, it was big), and an old cemetery. Walker also took a bite out of a juvenile porcupine for breakfast one day, and got about 40 quills in his snout and mouth, which the vet referred to as a "minor quilling" and which made my wallet terrified of what a "major quilling" would be like. He's all better now and back to his usual self, giving me the paw when I'm on the phone or reading a magazine. Swipe for my POV of his disdain.

On the CREEM front we published our 16th issue and it was a banger that included the Butthole Surfers, the Black Crowes, an amazing photo essay on '80s Brooklyn metal club L'Amour, and an interview with Wayne Coyne which made the Instagram commenter audience of cheapskate non-subscribers very angry at us for "platforming" his pro-AI music views, despite the fact that America's Only Rock 'n' Roll Magazine is 100% human made. It was pretty funny. And on the cover is an illustration by @clayhickson which includes a Boy Howdy! Beer can in the mohawk. Coincidentally, Boy Howdy! Beer is now available in grocery stores and bars in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Texas. Swipe for the can and case reveal, and if you're in Philly on Friday, August 28th, join us for the launch party and a night of maximum rocking 'n' rolling. See you there next week or see you here later this fall for the Q3 update. by @johnmartiniv

5 nights of rock 'n' roll begin tonight

5/20 - Philadelphia, PA
5/21 - Asbury Park, NJ
5/22 - Richmond, VA
5/23 - Wilmington, DE
5/24 - Brooklyn, NY

The mid-Atlantic hasn't seen this much rock action since...the last time we played there.

Thanks to everyone who helped set these shows up! by @johnmartiniv

Spring is here again. Winter's rapid melt out created a short but very intense mud season, which as most of you know is the official 5th season here in Northern New England. Now things are drying out, but the ticks have been completely insane. Walker got bit and was in real bad shape so we had to make an emergency vet visit. Let's just say that one of us had extreme separation anxiety when he had to be put under for x-rays. Wasn't Lyme, thankfull. Doxycycline did wonders for him - and for me as at one point we were both on it concurrently. Fuck ticks. Walker has been shedding his winter coat too, the results of which have to be seen to be believed.

And the 15th issue of CREEM is in homes now and is our best yet. It was our homage to 50 years of punk without doing a goofy "Punk At 50!" issue. John Holmstrom's cover illustration originally appeared on the third issue of PUNK Magazine in April 1976, right when the Ramones first record came out. Oh, and we have an unpublished Joey Ramone interview, too.

In other rock 'n' roll news, my gang is going on the road this week. See you in Philly, Asbury Park, Richmond, Wilmington, and Brooklyn. by @johnmartiniv

Taking the band on a spin through the Mid-Atlantic region in a couple weeks.

The group chat is excited about: the Philly venue having hot dogs, boardwalk drinks in Asbury Park, experiencing Gwar Bar in Richmond, our first ever show in America's first state, "headlining" the beer garden at a metal festival in our hometown even though most of us don't live there anymore, fitting 6 of us plus gear into a Dodge Caravan, seeing friends, rocking, rolling, and various side quests of dubious value.

We will be on the road with our friends Spit Shine who just released their debut album "Welcome to Yeehaw Junction" - give it a listen and see you at a show.

This year we had what us New Englanders call "an old time winter" - heaps of snow and very cold. But the snow was powdery all season and easy to shovel, and the skiing has been unbelievable. Being so fluffy and dry it wasn't great for snowballs or snowmen - until now - "false spring" when everything is melting before old man winter returns. Swipe for my creation, clearly those sculpture classes in college are paying off. ⛄️

On the rock 'n' roll front, we published the 14th issue of CREEM - and it was our best issue yet. Grab a copy at ebay.com because it's totally sold out. Subscribers got to read an epic 10 page oral history of Fugazi's Red Medicine, @joelgion on how Oasis got the infamous crystal meth in '94, see a photo of Chris Robinson's cute lil dog by @jesselirola, read about my former colleagues @tylernotyler and @kareem's band Tiny Gun, read @whalecockskateboards insane interview with an in-character Spinal Tap, see a shirtless Harley Flanagan, our a tribute to Ace Frehley, a Cheap Trick interview which caused an unstable reader from New Jersey to find my home address and send me some hate mail (which of course will be published in the next issue), and so much more.

Walker sends his regards. 🐺 by @johnmartiniv

Greetings from the foothills of the White Mountains where the mercury registered a brisk -5F out this morning! As you all know, it's a New England tradition to not turn on the heat until November, but I try and go the extra mile and not fire up the wood stove until Thanksgiving. I gave in a few weeks shy of my goal, but it's been extra cozy ever since.

On the rock front, we published the 13th issue of CREEM! And it was the closest we've ever come to putting a band on the cover: a photo of a fan passed out on an Oasis flag. Kind of how we all feel after one of the best years of rock 'n' roll in recent memory, right? Little backstory on how the cover came to be: @tunamelt1978 was on a bender at the gigs in Wales and sent me a nonsensical, incoherent rant about the shows proclaiming it "was an article for Creem" which he probably doesn't remember doing, as well as the photo. I hit "delete" on the "article" but pestered him, repeatedly, to "email me the high-res photo and submit an invoice" which he finally did. Our best cover yet, some might say. And we still have no clue who the young lad on the cover is, but maybe someday he'll surface. You can order one of the few remaining copies at creem.com - or even subscribe - and still receive in time to stuff in your stocking.

And if you're in NYC on Thursday evening, swing through our event (see prior post) - we just might have some advances of Issue 14 too... by @johnmartiniv

Not the Creem holiday party, just a Creem party during the holidays.

Come witness some rock 'n' roll and try the new Creem x Dogfish Head dirty martini canned cocktail 🍸

Very limited tickets available to the public

New England summer started off really rainy, then got so unbearably hot I forgot to post the quarterly update until now. But the start of fall has been just about perfect. A black bear has been hanging around, and the logs are split and stacked for winter. In local news, for budgetary reasons the town has ended weekly trash pickup, so we now bring everything to the dump, which I much prefer rather than hauling bags down to the road at the crack of dawn on Wednesdays regardless of weather. Live free or die is the coolest state motto, but how about an alt option: Come for the fiscal responsibility, stay for the cozy mornings.

Also, this is your last chance to subscribe to @creemmag and add on the Summer issue which includes @zacharylipez looking at 50 years of SDRR (acronym made famous by the Ian Dury song), me ranting about how A.I. has no place in rock 'n' roll, the underrappreciated era of 90s NYC pre-Stroke rock, everyone's favorite Pixie, Damon Albarn's butt cheeks courtesy of Liam Gallagher, bands that you love and I've never heard of, and we go behind the scenes of Live at Pompeii with Pink Floyd. And more, obviously. We've got <100 copies left so why don't you make @jaymedarling's day and get them out of h̶e̶r̶ ̶g̶a̶r̶a̶g̶e̶ the CREEM warehouse? by @johnmartiniv
