I truly dreamed of these opportunities, and for them to form before my eyes has been luck and hard work paying off! Thank you to my family, new and old. Thank you to Sade May and Ron OJ Parson for taking a chance on me and seeing my potential and gifts.

2025 NORTH THEATRE UMBRELLA AWARD WINNER! ☂️🏆

Nominees for the Umbrella Award participated in ALL parts of the North Theatre Umbrella: Fall Musical, ITF Qualifiers, IHSA Musical Theatre Review, IHSA Group Interpretation, IHSA Contest Play AND the Spring Play.

25’ UA Winner: John McBeth III

John started off the year flying…a pride flag! 🏳️‍🌈 He was selected over the summer to be a member of the 2025 IHSTF All-State company of “Prom”, for which he performed as a member of the ensemble. While preparing for that, he took a trip to the south to take on everyone’s favorite villain, Mister, in our fall musical The Color Purple. 🪻

From the fields of lily, to the streets of Avaris, John was our leading man in this year’s Group Interpretation, the Biblically inspired “X”. For his role of Musa, he finished as All-Conference, All-Sectional AND All-State for the FOURTH year in a row, helping to secure a back-to-back state championship run. Making him North’s ONLY four-time All-State actor in Group Interpretation. 🏆

Staying in the Bible, John was also a member of our state CHAMPION Musical Theatre Review Team. Our piece “The Prince of Egypt” starred him as the antagonist Rameses, where though is character might have been plagued, his portrayal surely wasn’t! He helped lead us to our first MTR state championship title. 👑⌛️

Not done making history, John led our Contest Play “East Texas Hot Links” to the FIRST Drama state trophy in North history! As the sketchy XL, his performance was fully embodied. Helping to display the dark side of life as a Black man in the Jim Crow south. Securing him All-Conference, All-Sectional, AND All-State Honors. 🍻

From dollar bills, to thank you Bills, John also was an inaugural member of North Theatre’s Shakespeare Slam team who clinched a slam championship in their first year of competing with the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre!

Congrats John on a historical year as our most decorated nominee in history! 🏆 by @johnmcb3th
