𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒏 — John McMahon

I absolutely loved Head Cases, so I couldn’t wait to get back to Gardner Camden and the PAR team! While Inside Man has a slightly different tone, I loved it every bit as much and couldn’t put it down.

I really love how the PAR team find patterns to think outside the traditional box of criminal analysis. Watching them uncover connections that everyone else had missed and slowly piece everything together was incredibly satisfying, and I was constantly trying to solve it right alongside them. Gardner Camden is just such an easy protagonist to love, and together with the rest of the PAR team they’ve become one of my favourite teams in crime fiction. Every member has such a distinct role within the team, and that’s a huge part of why I love this series so much.

John McMahon has created something really special with Gardner Camden and the PAR team. I really hope this isn’t the last we see of them!

This week’s TBR 📚

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒓𝒕𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝑨𝒏𝒏𝒂 𝑯𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒔 — I only started this one this morning, but it’s been on my radar for a while. It was marketed as The Talented Mr. Ripley if Tom Ripley were a young woman today, and that was enough to immediately sell me on it.

I’m currently buddy reading 𝑻𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝑴𝒆 𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑻𝒓𝒖𝒆 with Terri @twist.and.doubt and I’m completely immersed in Arlo’s story as he returns to Yulara and confronts the events of twelve years earlier that still haunt the town.

I also started 𝑰𝒕 𝑪𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝑯𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝑩𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝑯𝒆𝒓 yesterday afternoon after it had been sitting on my TBR all month and giving me severe FOMO every time it popped up on Bookstagram. I’m only a few chapters in, but the amount of dogs already mentioned is a huge tick from me. 🐶

📱𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑼𝒏𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒏 — Riley Sager’s newest release officially publishes next week and I’ve been looking forward to this one ever since I finished 𝑭𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑮𝒊𝒓𝒍𝒔.

📖𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒏 — The sequel to 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝑪𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒔 and I can’t wait to dive back in with Gardner Camden and the FBI’s Patterns and Recognition Unit.

📖𝑴𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝑾𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔 — The cover had me immediately, then I discovered it’s a debut following a marine biologist exploring one of the world’s deepest ocean trenches. Considering I have a degree in marine biology, the appeal only grew from there. Thank you to @simonschusterau for the copy! 🌊

🎧𝑰𝒏𝒄𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝑨𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑯𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 — With the film adaptation, Other Mommy, on the way, I of course need to read this one first! I’ve also heard the audiobook is the best way to experience it, so that’s the format I’ll be picking up.

Ak sa chcete v tomto teple schladiť nejakou krimi knihou, Stratené prípady sú tá pravá voľba 🥵.

Agenta Gardena Camdena považujú ostatní tak trochu za čudáka, ale aj geniúsa v riešení prípadov. Camden si musí vedome pripomínať veci, ktoré je fajn spomenúť v konverzácii aby sa ľudia cítili dobre, zoraďuje jedlo podľa počtu proteínov a iné zvláštnosti, no jeho iný spôsob myslenia je v práci agenta veľmi prínosný. Pracuje na oddelení prípadov, ktoré vyzerajú beznádejne a zasekli sa v procese riešenia. Takým prípadom bola aj uzavretie prípadu sériového vraha, kvôli jeho smrti spôsobenej požiarom. Na veľké prekvapenie však o pár rokov neskôr nájdu zavraždeného človeka s úplne rovnakou DNA. Otázky sa kopia, vraždy pribúdajú a Camden sa snaží zistiť ako všetko spolu súvisí. Do toho všetkého nový vrah zaplietol do procesu aj Camdenovu rodinu, ktorú ohrozuje a dáva mu to najavo.

Veľmi som si užila napätie, ktoré znásobovali krátke kapitoly plné zvratov a nových objavov. Rovnako ma bavil aj samotný prípad, veď haló, vrah, ktorý zabíja iných vrahov? A ešte štýlom, ktorým kedysi zabíjali oni?Milujem. Podozrivým sa počas príbehu začal stávať naozaj každý, vyzerá, že má oči a uši všade a zdá sa byť nedolapiteľný.

Veľmi som si užila napínavé čítanie a osobne veľmi rada čítam krimi/trilery v tomto horúcom počasí, takže mi padla úplne skvelo. Určite odporúčam a ja som zvedavá na prípady v ďalších dieloch série. Dúfam, že dostaneme ešte trochu viac z osobného života Camdena a spoznáme viac do hĺbky aj vedľajšie postavy.

Head Cases by John McMahon

4.5 stars 🌟

This book is a wild ride! I’ve read this book in December of 2025 and it’s one of my top 3 reads for that month and definitely one of my top reads of 2025!

Gosh! This was cleverly written and well-executed. John McMahon has reignited my fascination in investigative and police procedural themes. The intellect in forensics that’s involved in the crafting of this book is laudable. 🙌👏

The twists are astoundingly smart. It’s gripping - from the first chapter right to the very end. The scene in the wilderness had me on the edge of my seat! I can’t wait to read its second installment, Inside Man. @johnmcmahonbooks

This book baddie highly recommends this book. 👍

John McMahon - Veszett Ügyek 🔎
Az FBI elhanyagolt különleges egysége a PAR Gardner Camden vezetésével egy friss gyilkosság ügyében nyomoz. Egy gyilkossági helyszín DNS-e egy sok éve halottnak hitt sorozatgyilkoshoz vezet vissza. A második holttestnél már egyértelmű mintázat bontakozik ki, és az elkövető direkt Gardnernek kezd üzenni. Rejtvényeket és nyomokat hagy maga után. Az addig háttérben dolgozó különítmény most az ország különböző pontjain jár-kel a gyilkos nyomában. Gardner és csapata pedig váratlanul az események középpontjába kerülnek.

A könyv hangulata feszes és izgalmas megidézi a klasszikus krimik szellemiségét. Egyesek szerint S.A. Cosby hangulatú de szerintem nem olyan sötét, inkább egy jól megírt Gyilkos Elmék, CSI vibe kicsi Chris Carter beütéssel. A történet pörgős, fordulatos, minden fejezetben új dolog történik, így olvasás közben garantáltan nem fogsz unatkozni. Ugyanakkor a karakterek és köztük Gardner emberi oldalát is megismerjük, ami mélységet ad a sztorinak.

Ha szereted a klasszikus macska-egér játékot, imádni fogod ezt a könyvet. Gardnerre vadászik a gyilkos, ő pedig a logikai képességeire támaszkodik. Szerintem amúgy tényleg letehetetlen. Gardner egy igazi megszállott nyomozó, miközben érzelmileg bizonytalan ember is. Szerethető, ahogy próbálja megérteni a világot ezért is mindanám, hogy kicsit Sprencer a Gyilkos Elmékből és Sheldon a The Big Bang Theory-ból keverék. A csapat többi tagja is izgalmas és színes, csak most főleg Gardner van reflektorfényben, bízom benne, hogy a folytatásban több szerep jut majd a többieknek is.
