Horrible scenes going on in the UK right now as the far right mobilise on our streets with violence and hatred, spurned on by the previous government’s Islamophobia and patently racist anti-immigration rhetoric. Remember for every one of these riots there is a peaceful counter protest, vastly outnumbering this vocal minority. Join a counter protest in your area to show solidarity (there are a bunch happening tonight).

I’ll be donating any profits from my shop over the next two months to Refugee Action. Link in bio.

Stay safe. by @johnnygreenteeth

I'm skipping my submission for Folktober today to announce that I will be donating all profits of any sales in my shop to @medicalaidpal until December, in response to the escalation of the conflict in Palestine and Israel and the catastrophic ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The attack by Hamas on Israel was horrific but clearly bombing innocent civilians is not the answer.

A link to my shop can be found in my bio alongside useful links and resources from @medicalaidpal and @standing.together.english

Pam the Fiddler and his ghostly (goatly?) retinue. Fun bit of local folklore I picked up in a leaflet that I found in a charity shop in Hebden Bridge. by @johnnygreenteeth

Very happy to see By Order of the King by @loosejawgames smash their kickstarter funding goal so quickly! They reached out me to do the artwork for their game a while back and were fantastic to work for. I am grateful to them and to all the people hiring real human artists in this age of AI-accelerated doom. If you’re interested in the project go check it out via the link in bio on their page ✨ by @johnnygreenteeth

I have a lino print “The Phantom Barge” in the exhibition “East Anglian Folktales” at @broadstreetgallerybungay over the next week. The exhibition is part of @blackshuckfestivalbungay who invited artists to contribute work inspired by the folklore of the area. I went for the tale of the phantom monks of Ely cursed for stealing the body of a dead nun. If you are interested you can read the full story in “More Tales from the Fens” on archive.org

I really enjoyed getting my hands dirty with this so expect more physical media from me in the future!

The fenodyree is a kind of fairy from the Isle of Man, not dissimilar to the brownie of Scottish and northern English folklore, but he is associated with farms instead of domestic homes. He is usually male, and covered in hair – occasionally he is described as being satyr-like in appearance. If kept in favour, the fenodyree can be an incredibly useful presence, helping out with the difficult labour of the farm. He can move giant rocks, herd animals and thresh grain but his special talent lies in the cutting of grass, earning him the nickname yn foldyr gastey (the nimble mower).
