⭐️ 10th anniversary❗️4x4 Photo Exhibition 2026 —————————————- Another successful photo exhibition❗️ This year we increased the number of photographers to 44, which coincidently is the size of the film that everyone was using. 🤘 I’d like to thank the organizers for planning such a wonderful event. In addition, thank you to my friends that visited and also those that helped coordinate my own exhibit.
⭐️ Chiba trip❗️Casio Exilim EX-10 ————————————— Right, so long ago. This area was an important river trading port. Rice would arrive from the north, processed into sake and shipped up the river to Edo (Tokyo). ☝️🤓 Let’s bring a travel digicam❗️ —————————————————————— This is a 2013 Casio Exilim EX-10. $1,099. 12.1mp, 1/1.7” back-illuminated CMOS. Marketed as the top-of-the-line flagship model. Perhaps, one of the more advanced digicams at the time. Although it’s not my personal top Casio, it’s probably the best Casio camera. Here’s why. ✊😅 ——————————————————————- FYI, this is my second time with the camera so I won’t go too deep in specs. The lens is a 28-112mm equiv., f1.8 - 8. 4x zoom. 👌 The shutter is both electronic and mechanical with a range from 4 sec to 1/4000. There’s CMOS Shift Stabilization. Max ISO is 25600. 👌 Shoots RAW. Can do AP, SP, full Manual, no prob. This is a serious digicam. 👌 —————————————————————— The controls and body uses quality materials. It looks and feels expensive. The control ring around the lens is my favorite part. The design is compact and efficient. It looks like a street shooter, but actually hides a useful zoom for landscape. ✌️😉 ——————————————————————- I can absolutely rock this camera❗️ It shares the same feeling as my Ricoh GXR. No thinking. Grab and go. I can’t explain it, but this camera makes me try harder. Perhaps, I like the “underdog” status of Casio. Reminds me of the “souped up” Honda Civics. Napoleon effect❓ Idk, but it’s fun and that’s all that matters in my book. ☝️😎 —————————————————————— ⭐️ Pics by Casio Exilim EX-10 around Sawara, Chiba. Lots of Honda Cubs❗️ Ps. ⭐️ “Amazon Best seller”. Sun Minipic —————————————- Kids digicams❗️Basically, I consider them a sub group of Toy Digicams. Although these cameras could be used for artistic photography, they’re really marketed to the kids. This camera is definitely for the kids. Or is it❓ ——————————————————————- This is a 2020 Sun Minipic. 16mp. CMOS. About $30. I paid $3 used. lol. It’s a cheap digicam with almost no info about it. Scanning Amazon, I did notice there’s quite a few names and minor design or color changes, but they all share the same basic shape and software. FYI, this is still a current item on Amazon. —————————————————————— Let’s go menu diving❗️ First of all, you can choose between 16/12/5mp. (Honestly I’d say all my shots were at 5mp… maybe 3, but hey.) AF can be turned off. This immediately makes the camera a fast street shooter. I found quite a few filters including a cool blue one. The flash can be turned off which is a welcome option. —————————————————————— On the hardware side, the body and detachable case are soft to the touch. The next strap is adjustable. Buttons and controls are simple and intuitive. There’s even a selfie camera on the back❗️ —————————————————————— Super fun camera❗️ Honestly, I had more fun with this tiny digicam than many of my other cameras. There’s something refreshing about using an easy to use, stress free camera. It made me try harder to focus on composition rather than worry about exposure control or speeds. Recommend it❗️ —————————————————————— ⭐️ Pics by Sun Minipic around Nakano Sakaue Station. Ps. Song is “The Box” by Roddy Ricch, 2020. Always happy to meet my friends❗️Thank you Shiki-san for visiting. And thank you Paper Pool for hosting our photo exhibition. ✌️☺️🌱 by @johnnyonwheels
⭐️ My “First”. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX1 —————————————- This was my first digicam I bought with my own money. I know, I was late to the party. 🤪 I was a film loyalist for too long, ok❗️However, I was occasionally shooting my parents similarly designed 2mp DMC-F7. So this camera wasn’t really a big jump. ✊🤓 ——————————————————————- This is a 2003 Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX1. Around $160, I seem to recall. 3mp. 1/2.5” CCD. It’s an ultra compact digicam that was considered the little brother when launched alongside the DMC-FZ10 and FX5. 👌😄 —————————————————————— Specs were decent for an entry level camera. The lens is a 3x, 35-105mm equiv., f2.8-4.9. ISO max 400. Shutter max is 1/2000. The AF is by single point or contrast detect. You can choose between Fine or Standard JPEG. Go get an SD card. 🤘😉 —————————————————————— Right, so I remember why I bought this camera. I wanted something compact. Cheap❗️Needed an optical viewfinder. Must use a li-ion rechargeable battery and SD card. I thought it was amazing it had red eye flash reduction. This was a luxury on 90’s 35mm point and shoots. 👍😁 —————————————————————— I whole heartily recommend this camera. Imhop, the FX1 is smack in the heart of the golden age of digicams. Quite a few cameras under 2mp require a degree in computer science. Many digicams over 6mp are same CMOS sensor, soulless, generics of each other. There’s exceptions. Plus, I’m a Casio super fan. lol. 🙌😆 —————————————————————— ⭐️ Pics by Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX1 at Camp Zama, Kanagawa. Ps. Song is “Get Busy” by Sean Paul, 2003. ⭐️ in theory. Casio Exilim EX-FR10 ————————————— Basically, I’m not a collector of action cameras. Which is funny to say because I seem to have quite a few. I am, however, a “Casio Super Fan”. That’s my only reason to buy this camera and I’m sticking with it. lol. 😜 —————————————————————— This is a 2014 Casio Exilim EX-FR10. $480. 16.7mp, 1/2.3” CMOS. Made in China. It’s an action camera that’s historically important as the world’s first wireless detachable camera. Yeh yeh. 👏🤓 ——————————————————————- In theory, it’s a great idea. If Casio was still making cameras it’s not unreasonable to imagine upgrading the sensor and lens separately as technology progresses. The concept is similar to a Ricoh GXR, my personal fav digicam. 👊😄 —————————————————————— The EX-FR10 has decent specs. The video is 1080p. The lens is a 21mm equiv, f2.8. The AF is by contrast detection. I like the multiple body colors. It’s both drop, dust and water resistant. Go find a micro SD. 🤘😆 —————————————————————— Fun camera ❗️However, it’s important to keep in mind this is a video camera. When using it for stills it’s a bit bothersome to have two power buttons. Wait to sync the Bluetooth. Plus you’re always worried about the batteries because there’s two. Handholding it is a bit uncomfortable. In the end it’s a Casio, so I like it. ✊😅 —————————————————————— ⭐️ Pics by Casio Exilim EX-FR10 at the Tokyo vs Kawasaki JBL game. Ps. Song is “All about that bass” by Meghan Trainor, 2014. Watch is a 1986 Casio F-28W. 👋🤓 #japan#tokyo#digicam#oldcmos#olddigitalcamera#cheapcamerachallenge#cameracollector#digivintage#digicamlove#nobadcameras#casiocamera#casiofan#casioexilimexfr10#jbl by @johnnyonwheels
⭐️ Different world. Ricoh GXR M-Mount A12 —————————————- There’s only a few of us. ☝️🧐 And I know it’s not a competition, but you really can’t help but notice what gear the other photographers are using. Basically, anyone that pays for an expensive event pass is probably a bit more serious about photography. “So who is this goofball shooting a digicam⁉️”🤪 ——————————————————————- This is a 2011 A12 M-mount module for the Ricoh GXR. $649. 12.3mp, APS-C CMOS. It’s part of the interchangeable module system that can swap out the both the lenses and sensors together. The A12 is arguably the star of the system. 🤩 ——————————————————————- Sure, I know what you’re thinking. “Why put a Leica lens on a digicam⁉️” I suppose If you can buy a Leica lens, you can probably buy a Leica body. 🤔 Plus, I’m not oblivious to Ricoh’s marketing hype to be associated with Leica. It’s kinda gimmicky for sure. 😅 —————————————————————— However, it’s important to keep in mind that there’s other 3rd party manufacturers that use the m-mount. Look no further than Zeiss and Voightlander lenses. These are high quality lenses that usually command respect in the photography community. 👌🤓 —————————————————————— This is my 3rd time to introduce a GXR, my favorite digicam. I have to admit the A12 is the main reason. It’s fun to shoot a manual lens, especially a rangefinder one. Hearing an actual mechanical focal plane shutter is music to my ears. It’ll do a max 1/4000. Or if you’re worried about vibration the electronic shutter can do 1/8000. The ISO is from 100 - 3200. I can rock this camera and highly recommend it❗️✊😎 —————————————————————— ⭐️ Pics by Ricoh GXR w/ A12 M-Mount and 50mm w/ Voightlander 50mm, 21mm, P10 28-300mm at the Japan Social Dance Championships 2025 at the Prince Hotel, Tokyo. ⭐️ Pickleball Japan. Sony Bloggie MHS-TS20 ————————————— An interesting trend happened around this time. The rise of YouTube, more specifically the blog, created a niche market for manufacturers to introduce mini camcorders. Here’s one of them. —————————————————————— This is a 2011 Sony Bloggie MHS-TS20. $180. 12mp. 1/2.5” CMOS. It’s a tiny camcorder that, as the name suggests, was created for blogging. That is creating short clips on 720 or 1080p to post on SNS. —————————————————————— Luckily, in line with my cheap camera challenge theme, you can take still photos with it. Nothing spectacular, but “12mp is 12mp” and that, in theory, should be better than most of my cameras. lol. —————————————————————— Unfortunately, my expectations were too high. With no manual controls taking pics of sports is out of the question. The sensor and f2.8, 37mm equiv., lens struggled in low light. ——————————————————————- Yet the MHS-TS20 redeems itself in giving nice pics in nice conditions. Plus, I really like the touchscreen and build quality. The pop out USB makes charging the battery and transferring photos super easy. For next level geeks you can take photos while shooting video. Granted it’ll only be 2mp or 1mp. But I like those pics even more for that reason. Fun camera❗️ —————————————————————— ⭐️ Pics by Sony Bloggie MHS-TS20 at Tokyo Metro Pickleball Tourney, Machida and of my pickleball group in Odawara. Ps. Song is “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars, 2011. ⭐️ Vintage Lens Challenge. Canon EOS-5D ————————————— Although I love my Fujifilm X-T3, I have to admit that the APS crop sensor isn’t that great when using vintage lenses. It’ll take nice shots but the full potential of the lens isn’t utilized. So let’s play with full-frame today❗️ ☝️🤓 —————————————————————— I suppose I could use a full-frame mirrorless, however, I’d be missing out on hearing the wonderful “mirror slap” that only a DSLR can provide. The 5D is the perfect camera as it’s old but not “that old” as to be a hindrance, like a Kodak DCS or other early DSLRs. 😵 —————————————————————— Shooting four lenses….two 135mm, f3.5 Takumars, one of which is a bit rare from the 50’s. There’s a Soviet Industar 50mm, f3.5 and finally a film camera days EF 28-80mm, f3.5-5.6 Ultrasonic AF. ☝️🤓 —————————————————————— I really do recommend using old lenses. For one, it’s much cheaper to buy. The look is unique to each lenses. Plus, I like learning the technical aspects and how the design changed over the years. Finally, shooting old lenses is just plain fun❗️ I wouldn’t use them for serious projects, but for photo walking with friends it’s perfect. 👋😍 —————————————————————— ⭐️ Pics by Canon EOS-5D around Harumi, Tokyo. ⭐️ 12Mg. Sanyo DSC-SX1Z —————————————- Around the late 90’s you start to notice Magnesium camera bodies, especially in professional and mid-level consumer cameras. Why is this❓🤔 —————————————————————— This is a 1999 Sanyo DSC-SX1Z (VPC-Z400). $619. 1.3mp. 1/2.7” CCD. It’s an unremarkable-looking point and shoot thats interestingly hard to find. 😬 Not many were made and collectors are actively looking for one. The reason is it’s one of the first cameras to have a fully magnesium body. ✊🤩 —————————————————————— Little background. Sanyo makes batteries. They realized that the latest TFT screens used a lot of power. This generated unwanted heat that might fry the electronics. 🙀 Ever seen the scorching on a plastic digicam⁉️ So voila. Here’s magnesium. 👏 Benefits are it’ll dissipate heat faster, it’s lighter, and anyway looks dang cool. Next level nerds will know that after China mastered the Pidgeon/Bolzano processes, the price dramatically decreased. 👌🤓 —————————————————————— Here’s the specs of the DSC-SX1Z. The lens is a 34-102mm equiv, F2.8-4.7 zoom. The shutter can do max 1/750. ISO is 100. Uses a Smartmedia card and 4 AA batteries. 👍 —————————————————————— I like the camera❗️ 😍 You can really see how Sanyo tried to save battery life. It has a feature that can capture external light onto the back of the LCD monitor. This can also be seen on some Sony Mavicas. ✌️☺️ —————————————————————— ⭐️ Pics by Sanyo DSC-SX1Z around Hakone, Kanagawa. Thanks to my British friend, Mark for driving. 👋 Ps. ⭐️ digicam.love. Casio QV-5500SX ————————————— Always trying to support the community. So when my friends on Discord asked if I can photo walk with a member, I happily obliged. Let’s go to Shimokitazawa, aka, “retro town”❗️ ——————————————————————- This is a 1999 Casio QV-5500SX. $899. 1/3” CCD, 1.31mp. It launched at Macworld alongside two other Casio models and was considered the entry-level of the three. —————————————————————— However, many years later, I’m tempted to say this is actually the better camera. Main reason is the 5500SX was designed with operating ease and efficiency in mind. No zoom. No janky, swivel lens, nada. Menu is simple and shooting in Auto allows you to focus on composition. —————————————————————— In addition, there’s a feature called “Quick Shutter”. Here, the camera will be ready for the next shot within only 0.5 seconds. This was made possible with a 16mb internal buffer. Quite impressive at the time. ——————————————————————- This all makes for a fast shooting experience and great camera for street photography. The lens is a 36mm, f2.8. The shutter can do 1/8 - 1/500. Go find a CF card and 4 AA batteries. Next level nerds will note the CF card is inserted from the top of the camera. As far as I know it’s the only digicam that does this. —————————————————————— ⭐️ Pics by Casio QV-5500SX w/ broken battery door cover by my friend from North Macedonia, Jana. Nice job❗️ Ps.
