Here is a story that I have shared mostl with close friends. I was working with Jack Douglas for many months over at Sony Studios, right across the street from where the hit factory was at that time. The hit factory had been converted into condos. I was the musical director on the project and Jack and I had some disagreements. . The last night I saw him , he told me how he had just seen Clapton at the O2 Arena with Kirk Hammett, he used to call me the kid and he told me that he thought I would’ve kicked their asses. It was one of the first compliments he had given me because he loved to tease me. Later that night, as we were leaving Sony Studios late , he was outside having a cigar with Busta Rhymes.. we left and walked up the block . he asked me if I wanted to grab some food with him. I told him all my friends were out having fun and I was just going home to play xbox like a sad loser …. He said , OK suit yourself. See you tomorrow. I told him to enjoy the broccoli, he was a vegan . On my drive home people hit my car. Try to murder me put me in a coma for two months. I had to have my whole face reconstructed well most of you know that story …. A few years later, I was working at Linda, Perry’s Studio and a session basist and I were talking , this story came up, he freaked out and told me he used to live on Jack’s couch. He called Jack who I hadn’t spoken to in years since the accident Jack got on the phone heard my voice started screaming the Greek lives. I had explained to him that night that I recorded my first burlap to cashmere record up in the Studio, where Jack recorded double fantasy with John Lennon. John was coming home from the Studio when he was killed . Over the phone Jack kind of got silent and there was a moments pause and he told me well. I guess you shouldn’t work with Jack’s. We both chuckled but realized the heaviness . I recorded my first record in John’s room when I was 21 years old and then he and I were working right across the street, leaving the studio probably the same way he did with John . Jack could be rude sometimes and then love you next time , a true New Yorker . Thanks for the memories Jack -“The kid” #jackdouglas taken in The Hit Factory by @johnnyphilipps
