🚨🚨🚨LAUNCH DAY!

I wrote this book because I know I’m at risk of succeeding in the eyes of the world but not ultimately being successful where it matters MOST. 😳

And importantly, I know I’m not alone in that risk.

We all know this: there’s A LOT happening around us, so much to accomplish, and never-ending distractions. All that makes real success a bit murky to define and all the more difficult to reach.

But what I’ve learned on my journey - personally and through my 10 year career at Nike - is that the ONLY way to truly win is to get extremely clear about what it means to win.

In doing so we define what’s MOST important - and those are the Worthy Wins. They are what will truly matter in the end.

That’s what this book is about - helping readers get clear about what matters most and then taking SIMPLE steps to win.

Starting today it’s available in the usual places and I’d be honored if you grabbed a copy.

But more so, my hope and prayer is that it would put wind in your sails to spend your life chasing what matters most.

🚨MY FIRST BOOK LAUNCHES JUNE 10🚨

Writing this book wasn’t a part of my plan, but three prompts from three different people on a random day about 18 months ago was the push I needed. Those promptings felt like affirmation from God that the message on my heart was one that the world needs.

Truth be told: this is a message I need to hear over and over because there’s a risk that I know I face - and I believe every single other person faces as well.

The risk?

Winning at things that won’t matter to me at the end of my life, while taking Ls in the places - and notably, with the people - that are most important to me.

Ever since my Dad died unexpectedly four years ago, I’ve been reflecting, praying, and discerning what real success looks like - and my answer is packaged up in book form in order to help others get clear about what it really means to win.

Along the way I share wisdom and learnings from my 10+ years working in marketing at @nike and @jumpman23, but the stories and tools are relatable and applicable to ANYONE.

This book helps readers do two things: 1) unlock extreme clarity about who and what are MOST important and then 2) take SIMPLE steps to succeed with those people and in those places.

I’ve been blessed by amazing support and validation about the importance of this book. One of the most brilliant people I know @jongordon11 wrote the foreword, and on top of that, wise friends and legends like @bradlomenick , @jordanrogers, @davidnursenba, @timschurrer, and @mikefoster2000 have penned endorsements. (More to come on those.)

TWO REQUESTS on how you can help, if you’re so inclined…

1. Pre-order is live! Just comment WIN and I’ll DM you the link.
2. Tag a friend (or 5) who you think this message would resonate with to help expose them to the book/concept (as well as enhance how the algorithm feels about this post 😁)

Thanks to the many friends who have supported me on the journey so far. I’m excited to see what happens from here and how this book can encourage readers.

Much love,
JO

PS: @hiforrest your track was perfect for this post! Can I send you a copy of the book to encourage you on your journey towards your own Worthy Wins? by @johnolinger

This last week marked six years since my life got flipped in an instant. What started as a normal Wednesday with life just moving along turned into a day where everything changed. That call from my Step Mom that my Dad had suffered a serious accident blew everything up.

As I reflect back on that day I can’t help but want to encourage each and every person to make the call before the call.

So… Who is someone you love that it would be worth calling before you get the call that something has happened to them?

Don’t wait!

I don’t wish it on you - but tomorrow could be the day where everything changes. 🤍 by @johnolinger

I witnessed a major leadership fail last week. 😔

And it was painful to watch because the leaders who failed are great people with HIGH character. But in the midst of a messy situation - they lost sight of what they were actually trying to achieve.

This is not a condemnation because I am always at risk of missing too. 😳 I’ve found this question to be super helpful to keep me from missing. I believe it is something that every leader should be asking with regularity to help protect them from failing in a moment when their leadership is needed more than ever.

It’s a simple question, but a powerful one: “What do we hope to be true in the end?”

When everything gets turned upside down, this question is an anchor to keep coming back to.

I hope it’s an encouragement to you! by @johnolinger

HEY! I know summer is over… but this is important.

I saw something @jesseitzler posted and it flipped a switch for me.

I know I don’t have unlimited summers in my life, but I often forget that! Jesse was talking about how the average life span is 78 years…. Which means on average, people get 78 summers. If they’re lucky.

So, he talked about counting your summers - and I’ve started doing it now.

That means I just wrapped Summer #43.

Truthfully, it was a mixed bag. Awesome. Chaotic. Tiring. Sometimes all at the same time.

Before I move on to the rest of the year, I know I can learn from doing a short reflection on what was good… and what wasn’t.

Looking back after the BIG thing ends - whatever it is - was something we would always do during my time at Nike. Because looking back we were able to take a clear look at what could get better the next time around.

We did it after NBA All-Start Weekend activations and huge product launches, but it’s just as relevant when it comes to thinking about summers (or other seasons of life).

So, I created a super simple tool to help reflect in a tangible way. It’s called a WLOPS Exercise - Wins, Losses, and Opportunities.

Some WINS: Rafting memories with the boys. Deleting Instagram off my phone decreased my screen time by 30%.

Some LOSSES: The weekly check-in Erin and I use to stay connected completely fell off, and so did date nights. 😳

Some OPPORTUNITIES: Better weekly rhythms. Including Tuesday nights at the beach in the summer.

So, here’s my encouragement - can you take 10 minutes this weekend before fall fully kicks in and reflect on your Wins, Losses, and Opportunities from this past summer?

Then put a meeting on your calendar next April, call it “Summer Planning + Learnings,” and drop your notes in to review on that day.

Next summer - one of the limited number you have left - will be grateful you did!

Rooting for you! 🩶 by @johnolinger

It’s actually a question I’ve been wrestling with for the last 5 years. But it’s one I keep coming back to and asking myself - and others (like the amazing men from @discoveryfl).

It sounds so obvious and simple, but in the midst of all the stuff going on in our lives it is easy to get distracted.

To forget.

To start feeling like it’s too hard.

To start wondering if what I have - or haven’t - done disqualifies me.

But I’m reminded more than ever that tomorrow is not guaranteed and I want to spend the time I have left getting Worthy Wins.

Or in the language I shared today: I want to fight the good fight!

Wherever this finds you, I hope you remember that today is the perfect time to take a simple step forward. It’s not complicated… open your Bible and read a passage, say sorry to someone you’ve hurt, spend five minutes giving your kid - or your spouse - your full attention.

The specifics are different for each of us, but if you just take one step today - then you can take another tomorrow.

Drop an emoji in the comments if you want to fight the good fight!!! 🏆🥊💪 by @johnolinger

I read in @mikefoster2000’s newsletter he asks his wife two questions every so often:

- He asks her to rate him from 1 to 10 as a husband
- And then after she answers, he asks how he can go up one point? 😬

I read that and thought, “great question... for later.”

Not because I didn’t want to know how Erin would rate me. But because I knew deep down I had been failing in some areas. If I could just have a little more time, I could tidy some things up before she rated me - and thus get a better rating.

Turns out, that’s not how failure and surrender works.

Last week something happened that made my failure obvious without me saying a word. I couldn’t pretend I was a 10 anymore. And yet, that’s when I actually started being able to go up a point.

Surrendering to not being perfect isn’t laying down to die. It’s actually an invitation to live.

I put together a simple 5-step version of an exercise to help you go up a point now, rather than waiting for failure to hit later. (Trust me - starting now is a better route…)

Comment “One Point” to get the exercise!

Rooting for you! 🙌🏼

Can’t believe it’s been 13 years. That days feels like yesterday and forever at the same time. I am SO honored to get to do life with you @erinolinger. You are a joy and a delight - and you keep me from taking my life too seriously! (See slide 2 😂)

You are a woman of God who fights so hard for her people and that starts with how you love me and fight for me. Thank you for all you do for me and our family in the good times and the extremely difficult ones. It’s been 13 years that I wouldn’t trade anything for - and I’m so excited for the many more to come.

Let’s keep holding hands and laughing the whole way!

I love you! 😘 by @johnolinger
