NEW ALBUM: ED O’BRIEN – ‘BLUE MORPHO’ 🦋

Last night was excellent: a short film plus Ed in conversation about his new solo album, *Blue Morpho* - named after a butterfly and its journey from caterpillar to wings. He went through a proper dip during Covid (understatement) and has come out the other side reinvigorated. This album is the result.

Best Q&A moment:
“Who makes the best tea in Radiohead?”
Spoiler: Colin. Ed answered with full discourse and detail!

I asked about the shift from his first album (under EOB) to using his full name here. To me, it feels like he’s finally found himself in his own right - a sound familiar as Radiohead’s guitarist, but also beyond that. The record feels central, cohesive, and more mature than the first. Ed said ‘he was hiding’ previously.

I suggested the next album will build on this album and feel even closer in spirit. He laughed and said he’s glad to hear that, but he “doesn’t have a fucking clue” what it will sound like.

We queued to get our merch signed, great to have a brief chat with Ed, then headed to a pub to carry on the convo with @pjmcd43 (Patrick) and his friend Mark. Hopefully we’ll pick up where we left off soon! 😎🎸🎤
