Crete 2025. All myths are based on something…

🐮🇬🇷✨

It’s been 6 wonderful years since I met the woman I am proud to call my wife. As you do, we celebrated by heading to Crete to hunt for Minotaurs. Here’s what we found…

🖼️ Frescos reveal a possible origin of the Minotaur. Teenage boys and girls participated in a right of passage a bit like a rodeo, in which they ‘grabbed the bull by the horns’ and vaulted over it to prove their prowess.

😱 This could be fatal - possibly spawning some of the original monster stories of 7 boys and girls dying each year.

🌀 The origin of the maze? Likely the elaborate Knossos palace itself. Rather than just a cellar, it was probably the entirety of the complex which captured Homey and other storyteller’s attention. It was the first of its kind - containing roads, pools and even a theatre.

🐄 So we didn’t quite find the beast… but we did stumble upon this tiny 3000 year old “Minitaur” seal in one of the museums. It was smaller than my fingernail but still pretty cool.

🐐 Oh and we did bump into a few other mischievous horned creatures…

Thank you @cinymaria for sharing the laughs, godly amounts of Greek salad, having patience with my ‘driving’ and for the mythical moments. (Yes, we did have a proper holiday as well as me nerding out 😅)

Do you see the red flags?

Today my team got up at the crack of dawn. Wearing all black, we weren’t going to the office - we came to central London with a message.

242

242 people die per year due to domestic violence. 242 domestic abuse related deaths a year is unacceptable.

Too many people control their partners by belittling them, using violence and tragically in some cases - causing death.

Domestic abuse can happen to anyone.

We placed 242 red flags outside of the Monument to the fire of London.

242 red flags and 1 green flag to represent the support available.

Do you know someone who is being abused?

Because there is hope.

Peru

I felt like I’d stepped through a magic portal into an adventure game. ⭐️

Jungles to snowy peak, deserts to beaches, bustled cities and ancient ruins - the variety could have been different levels. 🌵🌴🗻🦦🌊☀️

Favourite moments included:
🙏 Ceviche
🤙 Sand-boarding down the worlds highest dune
👊 Hanging with adventurers from around the globe

⚡️⚡️⚡️If I can skydive, you can do anything. ⚡️⚡️⚡️

I have been having nightmares for about doing this for MONTHS. You may know that I’ve been scared of rollercoasters since I was a kid. To skydive is BIGGER and FASTER than any ride I’ve even thought about.

So a certain someone suggested I do it, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy.

How can we overcome fears? I asked around and here’s some things that helped me:

1. Watch videos so you ‘get it’ (exposure therapy - and social proof that it’s fun!) 🍿
2. Accept that it’s happening (it’s the end of the change curve anyway) 🫠
3. Get used to being uncomfortable - whether it’s an ice bath or a cold shower 🥶 (and learn how to distract your brain)
4. Smiling tricks your brain into thinking it’s having fun 🙃
5. Oh and most / least helpful… just bloody do it!!! 😂

As a bonus - there mere act of asking for help gave me a surge of support that made me feel invincible. Thanks amigos!

I am inspired…

Last night I was walking in Vienna where I heard singing from a crowd. It gave me goosebumps. What was it?

Swifties from all over the world - who didn’t know each other - coming together to spontaneously sing.

It seemed to shrink the looming spectre of terrorism...

It made me think of the counter protests in the UK. People LITERALLY standing up for their values, against intolerance. I particularly appreciated the stoic understated vibes of the folks in Preston.

Also - because this is me - this made me think of last years gaming hit ‘Baldurs Gate 3’. When your character is INSPIRED they get to re roll a dice. Inspiration helps you bounce back. It helps you face challenges.

Today I am at the United Nations where people work together for all humanity on the sustainable development goals.

The UN has moved the needle on 17 areas of global focus - from peace and equality to one I’m passionate about - Quality Education.

I’ve realised that inspiration and hope is contagious and it helps us.

So if you feel it - pass it on!
