_ Helderman residence. Been working on a new construction home plan and generating different renderings for my client to help visualize their prospective space before it has even broke ground.

Been thinking about AI a lot lately and the future of all our jobs in every industry. I love what I do. I love to create, problem solve, and build things. God wired me that way. I haven’t used AI yet to help generate any of my renderings or architectural drawings but I have tried several AI apps out of curiosity. It’s impressive. But I didn’t love it anything it generated. It felt flat, replicated, fake. Most of us in this field can see when AI has been used for design bc there are still subtle glitches (a wall sconce hanging from window trim), but it’s only a quick matter of time before those kinks are advanced out. I can definitely see how it is beginning to replace many in our field for those looking for general ideas or quick inspiration. It’s infiltration is forcing our kids to have to look at career interests differently now than before AI appeared on the scene, and we old-timers are going to be forced to adapt or be replaced. I do, however, believe there will still be a demand for the human touch that no technology can replace. An original signed piece of art in a museum is worth more than its replicated poster in Walmart. Why? Call me an optimist but I believe empathy, passion, and love reflected in a humans work will alway show through and be desired over something computer generated.

_ going beyond
It’s not just the arched opening, but the famed glass side lites that do it for me. The black and white balanced by the warmth on either side. Good design.

_ most of the time trim should disappear if its nothing special - so I encourage my clients to paint it the same color as the walls. but sometimes... it needs to stand out!

how gorgeous is this doorframe trim picture framing that mural behind it!

_ island time ☀️

Finally got the island installed in the Snug Island kitchen reno. Opened up this dark fluorescent-lit, enclosed kitchen to allow all the natural light in. Now it’s bright, beachy, & beautiful.

_ door galore

I am replacing my front door so doors have been on my radar lately 🚪

one of my favorite features of the European style is the central door handles. central handles started as a practical way to manage huge, heavy doors, then evolved into a design tradition in European architecture

_ kentucky bourbon country air bnb

finishing up providing a white box new construction home Kentucky charm and character for this up and coming air bnb. If you haven’t been Kentucky is one of those under-the-radar gems that surprises people with its charm, authenticity, and natural beauty. Here’s why you should absolutely consider visiting:

🥃 The Bourbon Trail
95% of the worlds bourbon is distilled there and visiting the distilleries is becoming the new wine country (except with bourbon)

🐎 Horse Country Magic
Kentucky is the horse capital of the world. A visit to Keeneland Race Track or a behind-the-scenes tour at a stud farm near Lexington is something you’ll never forget—even if you’re not a racing fan. And of course, the Kentucky Derby in Louisville is the most iconic 2 minutes in sports.

🌲 Nature That Feeds Your Soul
• Red River Gorge: a hiker and rock climber’s paradise with sandstone arches and forest trails.
• Mammoth Cave National Park: the world’s longest cave system, full of mystery and adventure.
• Rolling hills, lakes, and waterfalls all over the state.

🍗 The Food Scene is Real
There is a growing farm-to-table and chef-driven food scene in cities like Louisville and Lexington

🧡 It’s Unpretentious but Rich in Soul
Kentucky feels authentic. It’s where people still wave to you on the road, family traditions run deep, and there’s a certain peacefulness you don’t always find in big cities or overly touristed areas.

⸻

Where It Shines Most:
• Weekend getaway? Bourbon Trail + horse farms.
• Family trip? Mammoth Cave + Red River Gorge.
• Solo escape? Cabin in the woods, hiking, and a distillery stop.
• Romantic weekend? Cozy up in horse country surrounded by rolling hills and wood planked fences

The air bnb market is quickly rising in KY and offers great options for housing large groups (this one up to 12) with lots of entertainment and fun to make your trip more memorable. The one I just designed should be available this fall 🍁 #visitkentucky #kentuckyairbnb #moderntraditional #horsecountry #bourboncountry #eclecticdesign #virtualdesign #moodboard by @johnsondevelopmentanddesign

_ be inspired by the world around you 📘💙

Popped in for lunch at a restaurant in St Petersburg called the Library and loved its classic charm. We were surrounded by shelves of books, and all of the covers were blue. Always keep your eyes open. There’s inspiration everywhere.
