Tickets are now available for a special Nude Figure Drawing Session, taking place Saturday, April 4th, from 3:30 to 6:00 PM at Del Vaz Projects in Santa Monica. This special session will be held in celebration of Del Vaz Projects’ current exhibition, Steven Arnold: Cocktails in Heaven, and will be led by local artist and educator John T.D. Murphy. Before the drawing begins, guests will have the opportunity to experience the exhibition through a private tour led by the Del Vaz Projects team, highlighting Arnold’s extensive drawing portfolio—offering a unique setting to inspire the following session. The session will be rooted in the traditions of classical academic drawing and is designed to help artists develop observation, confidence, and technique through working from the live nude figure. Artists of all experience levels are welcome, from first-time sketchers to working professionals. All materials are provided, including newsprint and charcoal. Please DM for ticket link. “Phana (practical dreaming)” 2024 for ‘Resonantly Me’ group exhibition opening at the Bakersfield Museum of Art on Thursday, May 30th. .Phana (practical dreaming), 2024oil on canvas60 x 48 inches | 152.4 x 121.92 cm.(Excerpt from exhibition catalog) LA-based artist John T.D. Murphy’s deeply personal paintings depict scenes of intimacy, adventure, and isolation within the queer community. Using imagery taken from memory, personal snapshots, and culture at large, Murphy crafts narrative vignettes of queer identity. In Phana (practical dreaming), a young man is seen gazing out of a bank of windows. Referencing artist such as Caspar David Friedrich and Andrew Wyeth, the subject’s outward gaze evokes a longing for the unknown. Set in the Ladera Heights studio of Eli Bucksbaum, a local gathering spot for creatives of all ilk’s, the subject is surrounded by a magpie-like collection of positions taken from the artist’s life (including the first record Murphy and his partner purchased together and a well-loved copy of Lie With Me by Philippe Besson). #art #painting #contemporaryart by @johntdmurphy
