How much weight should you really give a bad review? 🤔 In our newest episode, Kati sits down with social scientist Katie Mullen to unpack the complicated relationship between human emotion, consumer behavior, and customer feedback. Katie started her career in public education and homeless services, studying the complex reasons behind why people make the choices they do. Now, she brings those data-driven insights into the beauty industry to empower small business owners to change their trajectory and build a better future for their families. Tune in to learn why negative feedback is often about more than just the customer experience, and how understanding the human behind the review can help you make more objective, grounded decisions for your business. 🎧 Click the link in our bio to listen to the full episode! by @join_mya

What do you do when your salon experiences a walkout? 😅 In today’s new episode, Kati shares the biggest lessons learned from her own experience with team loss. She talks about giving yourself space to feel the emotions, knowing when it’s time to take action, and why connecting with other salon owners is absolutely essential for surviving the hardest seasons of leadership. Bouncing back takes strategic rebuilding. Instead of scrambling to replace every stylist at once, you have to focus on intentional hiring to find the exact right fit. The key to staying prepared for the unexpected? Always be hiring, always be cross-training, and always market to your prospective team members before you actually need them. 🎧 Tap the link in our bio or comment PODCAST to listen to the full episode! by @join_mya

The theatre degree isn’t the only thing on my resume 😘 I don’t usually post about this, but we got these bangin’ pics from our brand shoot, so I wanted to take a second to share how proud I am to work for @join_mya For over 5 years, this company has taken me on many adventures across the U.S. and even overseas. And through multiple positions within the company, I’ve grown in ways I never expected. Today, I’m proud to be the PO for this kick-ass tech company. I’m also incredibly proud that mya is largely led and run by women, serving an industry largely led and run by women. It’s a special story to be a part of, and I don’t take my place in it for granted. A special shoutout to my right-hand woman, Danielle, for being my reliable constant, hype woman, travel buddy, and support system through it all. Name a more iconic duo… And a massive thank you to our founder, @katiwhitledge for trusting me with the company you built, giving me endless opportunities and encouragement to grow, and for taking a chance on this theatre kid 5 years ago. It’s been truly incredible watching our company grow, and in my new role working directly with our engineers, I am SO excited for what’s to come for mya in 2027. by @join_mya
In today’s new episode, we welcome back @theterraharvell, founder and CEO of Harper Ellis Hair Co. and Strata Salon Systems, to talk about the real responsibilities of leadership. Terra drops some hard truths in this clip: salon owners have a responsibility to build wealth—not just for themselves, but to create real, life-changing opportunities, benefits, and equity for their teams. The beauty industry is facing a serious threat as rising student-loan defaults expose the gap between cosmetology education and sustainable career success. We’re diving deep into why business acumen, financial literacy, and proven career pathways must become part of every stylist’s education. Terra shares candid advice for emerging stylists and challenges salon owners to step up, build profitable businesses, and create lasting wealth. If you’re ready to get into the right rooms, learn from proven leaders, and set aside your ego, this episode is a must-listen. 🎧 Click the link in our bio to tune into the full episode! by @join_mya
