sometimes you just want to show off your braids… next thing you know you get a whole lecture 😭💜

but Aunty ALMA’s not wrong. if you’ve got a protective style in (or about to):

• put the grease DOWN — greasing your scalp daily is why it itches (and smells) by week 3
• your braids want WATER, not grease — a light leave-in mist, not shea butter piled on
• light oils only: jojoba, grapeseed. heavy butters build up where you can’t rinse
• wash every 1–2 weeks, get to the scalp, and DRY it fully — a damp scalp under braids = mildew 🦠
• itchy? piroctone olamine or zinc pyrithione — NOT tea tree on a scratched scalp
