This didn’t start as a clubhouse. It started as a moodboard, to-do lists on café napkins, a stack of blueprints, and a very stubborn belief that women deserve a better “third place.”

The last few months have been a lot of firsts. We got our permits approved, hosted fundraising events, sat down one-on-one with the women who will shape this place, and gave ourselves a new name. Half of this we didn’t plan for but wouldn’t skip. Our waitlist is open and growing fast. Earlier this summer, I shared a closer look at Moxie, an upcoming membership-based club designed to bring work, wellness, hospitality, and connection together under one roof. Now, the women-focused concept is entering its next chapter with a new name, The Florence.

The transition follows a trademark dispute involving the former name. Rather than allowing the situation to derail the project, founder Margaret Cheatham Williams and her team decided to move forward with a new identity that carries an even deeper connection to the vision behind the club.

“We didn’t originally set out to become The Florence,” Margaret said. “Maybe that is part of what makes the name so meaningful. We grew into it. And now, we hope to build a place where others can do the same.”…

The most meaningful chapters don’t always begin with the name you started with — sometimes they begin with the one you grow into.

A trademark dispute has required us to let go of “Moxie.” And while it wasn’t the path we expected, we’ve learned that growth often requires letting go of something familiar —

Our mission hasn’t changed.
Our community hasn’t changed.
