“Your response is stronger than what happened to you.”

Ryan Day, Head Coach of THE Ohio State University Football team, closed the Uncharted Summit with a masterclass on leading under pressure and it was never really about football.

He took over a program and rebuilt it on one thing: trust. Without it, you have nothing and he showed us that trust stands on four pillars.

Character: when people talk about you they already picture something, and the hard moments are where you get to define what that is.

Connection: the way they say love is that they give their time.

Competency: if you haven’t done the work, no one is going to trust you to get it done.

Consistency: it comes down to whether you will do what you said even when things get hard.

From there it stopped being about football. Culture, he said, is simply what emphasizes the difference between a team that happens to wear the same jersey and a tribe that comes together for one goal.

Leaders don’t get to sit back and react; they gather information, lean on great people, and decide whether to push, pause, or pivot until the way forward becomes clear.

Sitting in that room, it was hard not to hear our own companies in every word. Same discipline, different field. by @joinunchartedcommunity

This year, in partnership with Libra Philanthropies, we introduced a new recognition at the Uncharted Summit, one that honors the founders who are building with both ambition and conscience. Who understands that what you build and how it lands in the world are not separate questions. The first-ever recipient was Hafeezah Muhammad, founder of Backpack Healthcare.

Hafeezah has spent her career expanding access to pediatric mental health care, reaching children who would otherwise fall through the gaps of a system not built with them in mind. She didn’t wait for the infrastructure to exist. She built it.

That’s what this award recognizes. Not innovation for its own sake but innovation in service of something larger. The belief that business success and community impact don’t have to compete, they never did. This recognizes the founders who’ve known that all along, and built accordingly.

Libra Philanthropies has long understood that capital and care can move together. This partnership felt like a natural extension of that belief, and of what Uncharted has always tried to be: a room where the definition of success gets bigger, not smaller. by @joinunchartedcommunity
