It’s not always that I feel like a true partner on photo shoots. But @annbaggley and I immediately clicked from our first coffee meeting. Her warmth and enthusiasm encouraged a session filled with creativity and collaboration; we had so many fun moments of total mind melding. First of many shots we made together. 🙏 @deploy_london for aubergine top and @danisteenhair for curls that stayed for 24+ hours! #headshotsession #actorportrait #monalisasmile by @jojadechim

Two years ago we wrapped the filming of One Small Visit in Ontario, Canada on a day of brilliant sunshine after days of rain and cold. It was an intense but joyful 6 day shoot, full of communal creation, laughter, and beauty. Luckily, the love we felt for the project and each other was captured on screen.

Little could we predict the big adventure our small film would take us on!

One Small Visit has now been screened and awarded nation and worldwide: from the Kennedy Center & Smithsonian’s National Air & Space Museum in Washington, DC to the Yarmouk Cultural Center in Kuwait to Asia Society Hong Kong; from NASA headquarters in Washington, DC to NATO headquarters in Brussels. With many more screenings in Delaware, DC, Wapakoneta, Vancouver, San Jose, Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Paris.

We premiered at the LA Shortsfest 2022, where we took the prize for Best Foreign Film. We streamed on the 95th Academy Screening Room, in Oscar consideration for Live Action Short. We also won the Audience Choice Award for Best Short at the Cleveland International Film Festival and Best Narrative Short nomination at the New York Indian Film Festival.

More importantly, we found audiences who laughed, cried and were touched, just as we were, by this enchanting true story of the Abraham and Armstrong families. And who believe, like us, in the power of curiosity, kindness, and connection. So much gratitude to our fans and followers here. Thank you for your generous words of support and recommendation.

Lately, as the world grows dimmer and the headlines grimmer, darkness seems to be overpowering. Now, more than ever, OSV is a beacon of much needed light and hope for our team. We still fight for a small world of tenderness and shared humanity.

We hope that as we embark on our final destinations for 2023 you can join us or spread the world. Tix are still available in our profile link.

Opening Night tonight. I’m so effin’ proud of this show. Before each one, I pinch myself, marvelling at how lucky I am to speak Jovanni Sy and @leannarhymeswithmadonna’s exquisite, incisive, witty and deeply moving words, to be part of Jovanni’s powerful directorial vision, to live in the rich and evocative sets, video and soundscapes by @joannayudesign, @chimerikco @realalessandrojuliani, to don my glam 80s look by @mingwongdesign and @mmmkstyle and to PLAY with my gifted cast who consistently bowl me over with their talent, kindness, and humor.

Huge thanks to the crew and team @stratfest for their bold belief in this play, providing the incredible stage and resources for us to MAKE our MAGIC.

We run until October 26 but only 20 more chances to catch this world premiere.

🙏 @david_hou_photography for capturing these moments.

Summer Recap: Stratford late season openings. Always a joy to see kindreds doing outstanding work. Highlights included Tao Of The World, Jovanni Sy’s reworking of a Restoration comedy into a sharp, sassy and hilarious satire of Singaporean high society. Othello never struck me as a feminist play but Haysam Kadri’s devastating version of it did. Delightfully surprised by Saturday, Sunday, Monday and finally seeing why Eduardo de Filippo is such a favorite of Antoni Cimolino-what a heartwarming play to conclude his last season as AD. Wowed by the agile, chameleon cast & crew of The Hobbit. Tickled by Midsummer Night’s Dream, deliciously directed by @grabbey24 who incorporated stunning projections, tons of movement and moments of unhinged funniness-don’t think I’ve ever laughed as hard at the mechanicals in the play within a play. Enjoyed the chance to dress up and let @danisteenhair work her magic on me. So happy to see Salesman in China peeps and can’t wait to reunite again next year. 2nd photo by @annbaggley taken in Stratford Festival of Canada by @jojadechim

Meandering in Macau.
In Macau for a few weeks last month for work and found a few mornings and evenings to explore the historic heart of the city. Portuguese explorers settled there in the 1500s and made it a flourishing port in the Maritime Silk Route where East and West converged. It stayed a Portuguese colony until 1999. Vibrant pastel churches, government buildings, and hotels mixed with Chinese lanterns, temples, restaurants. Black and white cobblestone streets modeled after Lisbon. Poetic Portuguese and Chinese street names. A charming fusion of cultures and traditions. #historicmacau #streetsofmacau #macautravel by @jojadechim

A big bookworm as a kid, I needed glasses by 8th grade, an age when glasses were definitely NOT cool. But a TV ad updated a Dorothy Parker quip and changed my view👀. “They say men don’t make passes at girls who wear glasses. But who says girls who wear glasses can’t make passes at men?” Over the years I’ve learned to see frames as fashion, 🤓 as 😎, and ❤️ my current collection. #glassesgirl #glasseslover #glassesarecool by @jojadechim

Homage to My Heart

The heart - the vital, muscular organ that powers a life. For most of my existence, I’ve been lucky and rarely worried about her physical condition. Most of the time, I’ve only thought of her in metaphors—fluttering in excitement, bursting with pride, aching with loss.

When we’re healthy we take our bodies for granted. It takes an accident to remind us of our mortality, a disease to realize our fragility. Then there are those conditions that creep up stealthily. Little symptoms we dismiss, attributing them to other reasons. Patterns we don’t recognize when we’re in the thick it. Our body transforms gradually and we adjust. A dysmorphia sets in and we adapt accordingly, accepting the changes as our new normal.

For a few weeks in January, things felt off. But I couldn’t put my finger on it. A general lethargy I blamed on various reasons. All I could say was that I just didn’t feel like myself.

It wasn’t until my body started to swell alarmingly and the signs of distress became undeniable that I finally had a reason to go to a doctor and discovered it was heart related. In poetry, a quivering heart that skips a beat sounds romantic but in real life, I quickly learned it can lead to dangerous complications.

Thanks to eagle eyed @demingling who first spotted my growing cankles and pushed me to seek medical help. Grateful for the team of docs who rushed immediately to treat me, family and friends around the world who aided me in finding the right specialists.

Someone once told me I had a big and mighty heart. In these past few years she has brimmed full and been torn asunder. I’ve come to marvel at her resilience, quietly mending and healing. I like to see her as those Japanese kintsugi bowls where the cracks are filled with gold, stronger and more beautiful, precisely because of her fault lines.

For the past few months, my life slowed way down so she could rest and recover. In the stiillness, I felt her sturdy but erratic thumping. Now, after a little medical reset, I’m relieved my heart’s finally found her rhythm again 💓. by @jojadechim

Originally planned as a quick stop en route to the Art Islands, Kurashiki ended up being a wonderful discovery. The Bikan Historical Quarter with its canals and streets full of whitewashed storehouses was so pretty and picturesque. Full of traditional buildings, quirky shops-the home of Japanese denim - and handicrafts such as the loveliest paper products and exquisite handmade confectionary that were little works of art. I fell in love instantly and returned a couple of days later to spend a full day meandering the streets and going on a wee shopping spree. #kurashiki #bikanhistoricalquarter #kurashikibikanhistoricalquarter taken in Kurashiki, Okayama by @jojadechim
