about

the album is a virtual chamber concert. the main techniques used are free improvisation, overdubbing and electroacoustic composition. two works are presented. they are based on 6 notes each (called a hexachord) from the chromatic, well-tempered scale. the note "a" is shared. as a result, 11 notes from the entire tonal range form the structural basis.

“nonett” originally consisted of eight parallel ensemble tracks recorded via overdubbing. during mix-down, certain parts were deliberately removed. the role of the sound engineer is thus elevated to that of a ninth ensemble member (arguably not a very agile one).

"nocturne de ludwigsburg" is an ambient chamber music suite for quartet, a freely improvising solo concert guitar and various experimental reverbs in three parts.

now on bandcamp. the album is a virtual chamber concert. an overarching compositional principle is the use of a simple serial technique that guides the use of the tonal material in each work: this is based on two so-called hexachords (each consisting of six notes), which share a common set of notes centred on the note a. in total, this comprises 11 notes.

“nontett” originally consisted of eight parallel ensemble tracks recorded via overdubbing. during mix-down, certain parts were deliberately removed. in the tradition of stockhausen, king tubby, and teo macero, the role of the sound engineer and his/her mixing board is thus elevated to that of a (here: ninth) ensemble member, if not composer.

’die amerikanische gitarre’ is the title of an essay I wrote about the ecm concert guitar and leo brouwer focussing on the year 1980. here, I explore the subject from a musical perspective.
