What does phase separation look like? 🧐 This is an accelerated stability test. By keeping the product at 40°C for a week, we simulate months of shelf life. This batch separated, meaning the oil and water phases broke apart. While I could just label it “shake well before use,” a truly stable emulsion shouldn’t do this. Time to reformulate for a perfectly stable product! 💧🔬

$The side of skincare formulation social media rarely shows: failed bench tests 😩 It’s easy to pick “star ingredients,” but putting them together is another story. If the surfactant clashes with an active or the emulsifier system breaks down, you get phase separation, oil layers, or precipitation. That’s when the real work kicks in: evaluating raw materials, testing new solubilizers, and diagnosing the phases. In Part 2, I’ll share what happened when I used AI to brainstorm a formula and the chemistry didn’t play along. #formulationscience #skincareformulator #cosmeticchemist #lablife #stabilitytesting {formulationprocess, labdiaries, labconsulting, cosmetic lab antwerp, formulating cosmetica , formulatie, labantwerpen, labdiaries, cosmetic } taken in Antwerp, Belgium by @jojo_bht$
