Porto.... the rest of the most amazing weekend. Apart from the day trip in the Douro wine region we also did a guided e- bike tour, went to the fabulous Mercado do Bolhão (go early) and the UNESCO world heritage gold church - Igreja de São Francisco. Oh also if you go out your head into the incredible railway station building. For me the food and experience highlight was @abolinabar - incredible - the kitchen cooked Portuguese style tapas to our brief. The ambience and attentiveness was out of this world - more like eating with a family and the wine was exceptional (as was the white port). Also we looked no further for pastel del nata having found @castro_porto and this resulted in several real trips for more. @flowrestaurant was a fantastic place to eat also on Saturday night. A more bougie place than a'bolina but they worked well together because a'bolina was a hard act to follow. Farinha pizza in the last night was perfect for me- mine had almonds on. Porto is the most perfect weekend destination, I can't wait to go back. Thanks to my Tawny port loving friends for the very best time #porto #portofood #portugal #portorestaurant by @jojo_jangles

Just the most incredible day in the Duoro Valley in Portugal yesterday. We visited two wineries that have been in the same families for centuries - @quintasantajulia, where we had tastings, a talk of the family history and lunch and then on for the most beautifully delivered talk and tasting at @quinta_santa_eufemia We then had a river cruise & back to Porto. This was with @living.tours. The best day #portugal #duorovalley #quintadesantaeufemia #quintadesantajulia by @jojo_jangles

Got a bag of quinces from @museum_of_stuff who was hoping this would happen I think. Soft set membrillo. Wholesome activity for a rainy evening #quinces #quince #membrillo by @jojo_jangles

Fantastic day with an absolutely brilliant group yesterday (not Tuesday as per caption which is a typo that Instagram won't let me change 😂) focusing on focaccia and pizza. Leah @blackshawgap has already taken hers to another spookin level #sourdough #sourdoughfocaccia #sourdoughteacher by @jojo_jangles

peperoni e patate in agrodolce.... or as I know it 'Cath's Sicilian peppers and potatoes'
I'm not sure the food photography stands up but as always I have a tale.
It is my focaccia and pizza course tomorrow and I like to be authentic with my food offerings. Cath will forever be known as my uni flatmate. 'Friend' doesn't do justice to someone I lived with for 3 years. Cath went to be a nanny in Sicily in the summer of our second year and came back with some really good stories of her adventures and also using a seemingly obscene (now I realise enlightened) amount of olive oil in everything. The early nineties were anti fat , thank goodness those days are gone. One afternoon she also started cooking up potatoes and peppers with passata (first time I'd ever heard of that too), onions, garlic, sugar and vinegar. Sweet and sour and gorgeous. Lisa (other fab flatmate) and I only recently remembered this amazing concoction. We had a bit each and both of us I think could have finished the pan. I definitely could. About 20 years ago, pre Internet, I had a go at trying to work out what went into the magical pan & it wasn't bad but I realise I added vinegar too soon.
This is divine and if course attendees don't agree that's just fine by me😂 Also this song is in my opinion sublime by @jojo_jangles

My lovely cousin not cousin Jo alias sourdough Jo 😉 had a beloved bag that needed some TLC and some gorgeous vintage fabric to make a new one. It took a bit of working out and the end result was almost identical! The Sanderson fabric was a dream to work with so after I had a little play and made some extras. 💛🧡 by @jojo_jangles

Really fantastic trip out to RHS Bridgewater yesterday with Mum and Dad. I particularly loved the community garden. Dad walked over 2.5 miles aged 86.5. He has mixed dementia but yesterday he did so well. Physically he is remarkable. He loves being outside and walking and it made such a difference. He also loves dogs, just as well 😂
Today we had a lovely lunch with Dad's life long friend, my godfather Uncle Des, courtesy of his daughter who is the cleverest person with a needle and thread I know. She has renovated my favourite bag and made a duplicate in a gorgeous Sanderson print I found on eBay. Dad never forgets his oldest pal even if he has forgotten a lot of the stories of their high jinx back in the day (Uncle Des hasn't though!) Their mums went to school together too so Fiona and I are the third generation of this friend tree spanning well over 100 years. She had sourdough on the table learnt here and I have a growing collection of her creations, most of which she has used vintage fabrics to make. #rhsbridgewater by @jojo_jangles

Catalonia rest of the week! Mosaic (made by Lorrie's artist friends) and jars of fabulous honey in El Perelló, day trip to Reus - birthplace of Gaudi - fabulous museum dedicated to him. Extra dry vermouth discovery, incredibly preserved Modernism style house designed back in the day with a blank cheque to Spanish Modernism architects - Casa Navàs, sea swimming, sunset wander with incredible murals round L'Ametlla de Mar and then lastly a few from my day by myself in Barcelona yesterday - really fantastic gothic walking tour. This bit of Spain feels so loved and lived in. Thanks so much to Lorrie for her fabulous introduction to it #catalonia #reus #modernism #casanavàsreus by @jojo_jangles

Spain! An amazing few days spent with my friend Charlie at our lovely friends Lorrie's house in Catalonia. We just missed the worst of the floods although this afternoon in Miravet ended in a wild drive back in torrential rain and pink lightning. A combination of amazing Spanish roads and Lorrie's driving got us back safe. We were cut short in Miravet so will just have to go back but we arrived on the tidal car ferry, had beers and vermouth (my new wheeze, just ordered a bottle of the extra dry white I drank in Reus. This is my second foray into vermouth having been served martini & lemonade copiously as a teenager at the amateur dramatics club bar) in the square then headed up to the ceramic museum and workshop. Just lovely. I found the ceramics amazing. Many of the huge pots were coil pots using hands and clay and I always feel kinship with potters for this reason. I immediately decided to check my bag in on the return flight at this point Aga bought a few bits! I had a really interesting flight buddy last night who was telling me that Salvador Dali attempted to buy the castle but was unsuccessful. He wasn't a nice man by all accounts so good to hear he didn't get his own way here #miravet #catalonia #españa by @jojo_jangles

I headed just over a mile up the road this afternoon to see the dig that is taking place on a Neolithic henge. I found it fascinating that the land has held secrets for thousands of years including very visible evidence that it had been burnt for reasons we will never know. There were uncovering cobbles, which was a surprise as it suggests a degree of permanence. Really fascinating including there is likely another closer to us. Thanks @hollowcowhey_henge for letting the community in so generously. Brilliant #henge #neolithic #archeology by @jojo_jangles
