Sometimes I feel like I’m the least skilled person in the room, but then I remember I am in the room. And I even get the possibility to talk to other more skilled people and learn from them.

festivals and concerts are truly amazing. You meet many new people and if you have the courage to ask them about their knowledge and passion, you will get some amazing answers too. by @jolasvisuals

Oh I do love a good stage shot!

The designs always look so good and are so thoughtfully crafted. Plus it’s a guaranteed banger shot when the time is right and the light falls perfectly.

Starting to love a good portrait shot even more.

Especially when it’s photographed on stage but doesn’t essentially look like that.

It’s more challenging since you can’t decide the light colour or harshness. You gotta work with what you got.

That’s what I always observe the light and in what patterns it comes. The key is to photograph when the light illuminates the subjects face or body.

I love a good silhouette shot. Even if I have to apply some magic later on, the results are worth it. But I definitely take too little silhouette photos during concerts.

But how do you achieve this look?

It’s actually really simple. You should look for light sources that are constant or move in a rhythmic pattern. Position yourself in line of the light and the artist. By the time the artist is hit with the light you want to take your photos.

And don’t be afraid to go darker than you normally would. In my opinion a good silhouette shot lives from the light contrast that’s created.

Photos live or die on timing and capturing real moments.

That’s why I always try to tell a story through my photos. Show the audience how I experienced the show, concert or event and tell them about the special moments. Some even might have missed these small moments.

Use the light you have instead of fighting it. It helps so much more to embrace the situation and light you’re in. Acceptance is the first step and then move accordingly to your plan. Lights may be harsh and change constantly, but they can set an atmospheric mood.

You should always have an eye open for interactions between the artist and crowd or the artist and band members. It makes them more human and shows a different side besides their hero shot personality.
