Fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God
Matthew 22:37-40

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Well, here we are again… Three weeks late, but still worth posting about.

Another year, another youth retreat. The faces and the names behind this retreat may have changed from years previous, but God’s faithfulness to show up is always the same. God, the consuming fire, gets the glory for this weekend. We saw His power, His mercy, and His beauty, all in a mere 48 hours. The lives of students and leaders alike were forever changed by Christ’s love, and a new generation of young people were commissioned to worship our King with wonder and awe.

Retreats are always a cut above a normal Wednesday night, or Sunday morning service, especially on the worship side of things. This retreat, Consuming Fire, was on another level altogether. The teams were practiced, had a great attitude through the whole weekend, and led with confidence and passion! I’m beyond proud of the student worship team who took total ownership of their own worship, while still leading their peers to praise the Lord - these young worshippers gave it their all, not just every single song, but every single moment of each set.

But above all, I’m proud of this generation of young people, stepping out with courage and faith to worship boldly, in spirit and in truth. The youth responded to the Holy Spirit in a way I’ve never seen before, and am desperately praying that I’ll see again. I’m humbled by the passion these students worship with - they continue to raise the bar for what worshipping God looks like. This isn’t a revival “stirring.” This is a revival HAPPENING. Young people, laying their lives down on the altar, saying “I must decrease, so Christ can increase.”

And all this being said, as amazing as this retreat was…

The best is still yet to come. by @jon.d.dixon

At the risk of sounding melodramatic, I want to share a bit of my heart, and lift up my God for what he's done in my life in these past 18 months since I last posted.

It’s been a long couple of years, and regretfully, not all of my time has been spent solely dedicated to pursuing a deeper relationship with Christ. I have my highs and my lows, as every person does, and when the going gets rough, sometimes the flame that drives me towards tomorrow starts to fade away.

However, certain events have come and gone which have reignited that fire every time it begins to fizzle out.

I’m thankful, I’m blessed, and I’m humbled to have been a part of now my 8th youth ministry retreat. Starting with Anchored in 2015, then Heartwork, Blueprint, Warrior, Ablaze, Subscribe, Shattered, and now Interstellar; each retreat has been a sort of capstone to a full year of my life gone past, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

This retreat was vastly different from the many preceding it though. For the first time: I was given the opportunity to lead the rest of the tech and worship teams in making retreat the very best it could possibly be. Lighting, sound, worship setlists, teams - lists upon lists and hours upon hours of work were put into making this retreat's chapel services a cut above normal youth service. For the second time: I've been given the opportunity to co-lead a small group of teenage boys, and to speak Jesus over them against the backdrop of a fun weekend getaway.

This is yet one more retreat that I will never forget, full of mind-blowing encounters with the majestic, living God that I will carry with me till the end of my days.

TL;DR. Retreat was amazing. God is so much more than just "good." He is awesome in the most literal sense of the word. I can't wait to walk in what he's got planned for me next! taken in Ponderosa Bible Camp & Retreat Center by @jon.d.dixon

I have this horrible tendency to let my eyes wander around when I sing - so I try to close them as much as possible... I look stupid, but here’s a sneak peek at an upcoming cover of “Calling all Skeletons” by Alkaline Trio by @jon.d.dixon

This was the hardest song yet, with a good majority of the important notes right on the edge of my vocal break, which made recording very frustrating. After a few days of serious burnout after starting this project, I’ve pushed through and finished the song, and now never have to listen to it again :). I have two choices for my next project, either of which will be very different from what I’ve done so far... so keep an eye out. The picture in the cover was once again taken by the extremely talented @hannahwood_02, thank you so much for making me look good in at least five existing photos ;). by @jon.d.dixon

Sorry about the audio quality, obviously not recording anything with my microphones, but I may eventually redo this song... correctly.

An addition to the upcoming “library” of covers I’ll be recording over the next few days. Can’t guarantee anything daily, but I’ll try.
