JON HATCH
@jon_hatch_

HVFF alum @knechtions has a film called Commuting in this year’s Fest. Fittingly, he conducts our #filmmaker interviews while doing exactly that : hands-free, on his drive home from the Bronx. On this ride, he called Jon.

Musician. Composer. Synth wrangler. And familiar face around the Hudson Valley Film Fest, Jon Hatch has been bringing his original #music to the Drive-In for the past few years.

Jon composes original music for film, television, theater & games, moving between cinematic orchestration, modular synthesis and live instrumentation to create music that becomes part of the storytelling.

Need music for your next film? HIRE JON.

The HVFF is more than just a Film Fest. We love damn good musicians too. Come hear Jon play an #ambient set live @warwickdrivein TODAY @ 5PM

Playing a short set at @hudsonvalleyfilmfest this month before one of the screenings 🎬🎸

I score music for film/TV for a living, so if you’re a filmmaker (or just scoring-curious), drop your questions below and I’ll answer as many as I can, or come talk to me at the fest. Drop me a DM to chat!

No question too basic. Temp tracks, budget, scoring, when to bring a composer in…ask away.

See you at HVFF 👀

Some years ago on my birthday, I took some photos inspired by Poe and his legendary creative output. I’m proud of those photos and since then, I’ve been trying to figure out how to utilize them effectively in a visual way. Recently, I came across an AI program which allowed the photos to come alive in some shape or form and found the results interesting. Then I spoke to one of my film editors about possibly doing something with them. I decided to create a visual art piece with the images animated entitled “Never.more”.

For clarification, the only AI aspect to this project is having the photos come to life. The editing, effects and music have been created by humans.

Filmmakers in….

I’m pretty sure allowing yourself to be vulnerable is one of the most rewarding things in life. Here’s me doing that. Been a guitar player my whole life and sometimes I let my skills go. I try to keep up with my chops. Gotta do more of that.

That said if you’re a filmmaker who enjoys taking risks and pushing boundaries or just want to talk about the creative process. Hit me up, I’d love to compose for you!

What if Good Will Hunting was a psychological thriller?

Same acting.
Same dialogue.
Completely different emotional interpretation.

This is why score matters.
